question about renting future points

So I'm planning a trip for december 3-6 and then january about the middle of the month. Now I know where I want to stay (BWV or BCV) but there's no place available for december so I think I have that worked out (OKW or Port Orleans). But for january I'm thinking the points might be available (BWV or BCV) but don't want to put my request out there until I can find some cheap deals for some plane tickets. So I don't know whether to wait for the plane tickets or get the DVC reservation and hope for the plane tickets.

I have always gotten the reservation in place before getting the airfare. I usually just wait for the airfares to come down, and they usually do that time of the year, but not until about 3 months prior to the trip.

Your last question is a bit trickier. It really depends on the person you are renting from and the status of their points. If your trip is near the end of thier use year, they would risk losing the points if they could not be banked. If you would need to change the reservation you would also be risking no availability at the resort with points as well. DVC resorts (and timeshares in general) try to keep near capacity booking all the time.
