Question about renting (current owner but not enough points)

I am looking at trying to rent some points for an upcoming last minute trip. I am currently a DVC member (but shame on me have used all my points up already). However I wasn't sure if I rented the points and the person put the ressies in for me if I could call member services since I am already a DVC owner, etc?

You would be looking to have points transferred into your account by another DVC member. This can only be done once a year and they will retain their use year once transferred. You can then make your ressies with the points in your account.

You may also want to consider making a cash discounted ressie for the nights you can't cover. DVC discount is 25% off rack rate thru MS.

Really - I didn't realize I could call MS for cash discounted ressie's - is that for the entire vacation (i.e. if I have zero points left)?

Yes, you can book what you need thru MS. That is of course, subject to availability for the discount.

Thanks - did that earlier (AP/CRO) and they have value resorts but I tend to shy away from value due to the hectic pace, etc. The AP's discount for the DVC Villa's was "all gone". I did call MS and it appears they don't have anything available at any DVC either with cash ressies or on points (I kind of figured - I am usually an avid planner and have these trips booked at least 11 months in advance but figured we had these AP's, a few days off around thanksgiving and was "trying" to be spontaneous ).

I do appreciate the head up on MS and cash ressies as it may be beneficial in the future.

If another member made the reservation for you using their points, you will not be able to call MS about that reservation. You are just like the non-member. You have no access to that account that was used to make the reservation.

Only if you transferred the points into your account and they became your points.

Not a stupid question. The discount is only for DVC resorts and is subject to availability.

No one knows exactly how they determine when (or if) to make rooms available to members for cash discounts. The earliest would be 11 months prior to check out, but more often than not, the availability isn't there until closer to the arrival date.

All you can do is call MS periodically and hope to catch something that meets your needs.
