Question about reallocating points

I have three trips scheduled for 2024. Earliest trip was booked prior to banking 2022 points. Second two trips booked with combo banked/ current points.
When first trip gets close, can I call to ask for banked points to be reallocated to earliest trip?

Assuming the same member number, and not changing 7/11 priority, MS can do this. I did this when I bought a contract with banked points. They put them into the first, pre-existing reservation, so I could make sure to use them.

If the points are already being used in a trip, MS can not move points around without canceling the trip you have booked first.

Reallocation can only happen if the points are not yet used. The example above worked because the banked points were new and had not yet been used. I’m

Now, if what you have booked can be canceled and then rebooked after you reallocate thst can work.

But they can’t simply move points between reservations that are using the points to hold a room.

I've done it for banked and borrowed points. I've moved them into a reservation I know I'm taking. Example, I borrowed points for a trip late in the UY, which I might cancel. I've called to have those points put into one I know I'm taking.

My reservations generally don't use 7+ priority, which complicates this.

Ok this makes sense and I had not considered that they are ‘holding’ a reservation. I appreciate the responses.

This has not been my experience at all. We had 2 trips booked, ended up cancelling one, and moved the banked points to the second one without needing to cancel that reservation because I would have lost it as there was no availability and likely many waitlists. I specifically asked because I didn't want to risk losing the reservation as it was not worth that risk to me. I was told (and they did) it was easy for them to do and no cancelling needed.

What you did is the same thing that Sandisw said can be done. If banked points are in a reservation, you can cancel that reservation and then modify another existing reservation to use the banked points that come out of the canceled reservation. What you cannot do is simply move any points (current use year, banked or borrowed) that are actually in a reservation to another reservation without first taking them out of the reservation they are in via cancellation.

If, in addition to the points that are in the two reservations, you have unused points that can be used to put into one of the reservations via a modification. while taking out a like number of banked points so they can be put into the other reservation via a modification, MS should be able to do that despite that the system usually takes banked points first when doing a reservation (i.e. you cannot do a modification online that would take the banked points out while replacing them with current use year points because the system automatically uses banked points first when doing the modification).

You can't do it, but MS can. I've done it multiple times. I usually have some spare points, so they might have swapped those in to "hold" it, I guess.

When I borrow, it goes on the furthest away reservation, and I always want it on the sooner one I know I'm going to take. I've done really complicated allocations with multiple contracts, only the banked from this one, only the borrowed from that one.

In the hurricane last year, I had to modify my reservations, and they were able to do this will all the banked and borrowed and all of that.
