Question about quilting kit

hello, wondering if anyone can help me with this item from jo-ann fabrics:

Do we have to have a sewing machine?
Do we have to buy any special tools?
Or does this kit come complete with everything we need?

My DD11 (12 next week) is interested in quilting but I have no sewing background and I thought this kit would be good to get her for Christmas.

It looks like you would need to have a sewing machine. You would also need basic sewing notions, such as scissors, pins, and thread. It is a fun hobby, you might check to see if they have any basic sewing lessons.

thank you for your reply I was hoping we wouldn't need a sewing machine, maybe I can steer her into cross stitching instead.
