Question about purchases and existing reservations

I want to book a trip using my 2014 points and borrowed 2015 points. I'm getting ready to buy a AK contract that has some 2013 banked points. If the purchase goes through after I've already booked my trip, will member services allow me to restore some of my existing 2014 points and use the 2013 banked points that I recently purchased for the existing reservation?

Hope that's not too confusing. It's just that I want to book a trip at the 7 month mark in early Dec. If I make a resale purchase in the next couple weeks I don't know if it will be complete by the time I book that trip.

Member Services can reallocate points for reservations on your account. Is the new contract the same use year? If not, you'll have to transfer points and this will get a lot more complicated. Will you be able to reallocate more than 31 days out? If not, there's no way to avoid the 2014 points from going into holding, making the reallocation pretty much pointless.

But, yes, they can reallocate using points that have been purchased after the original reservation was made.

If you are booking during the home resort booking period (11-7 months out), you might be able to use points from the same home resort. If the new points are not the same home resort and you booked during the advantage time, you won't be able to swap them out.

Your borrowed points won't be returned to the next UY.

Booking for early Dec at seven months might be tough.

OK thanks, that pretty much answers my question. My current points are BLT and the new will be at AK, both in a DEC UY....so I think I should be ok.

You should be fine. As noted, to sub AKV points into the BLT contract reservation directly, it'd have to be made at 7 months out or less. The other way to do this is to make any reservations one could that matched the current reservation, even single day, with the new points and then cancel and link those days in the old reservation. This will serve the same as if you substituted the points even for 11 month reservations.
