If I haven't been in a long time and don't know where I want to eat or what I like should I just pick a place and get a PS or just wait and checkout menus/dining environment when I get there to see if we want to eat there.

So far I just want to eat at CRT - is this place crowded/packed. Do I need a PS and if so how early do I need to schedule one? Can I just do it that week I'm there.

If you are talking CRT for the breakfast you absolutely need a ps! They are incredibly hard to get, you call 90 days out, on the dot of when the dining number opens and hope for the best. The vast majority of people will not get this breakfast. They are adding a character lunch in June I think and I am sure that will also be tough to get. I think it is the idea of eating in the castle with Cinderella herself that gets people going. At the dinner Cinderella isn't there. There is an advice thread on how to best go about getting this breakfast. As far as other restaurants it depends on how busy the time of year is. Go to allearsnet.com and check out the menus. I would never risk going without at least a few ps' because the counter service can get old. You can always cancel a ps but if you don't have one you may not get to eat where you want to.

Depends when you are going but mostly we found if we are in a park we try to pick a place we think we would like for lunch or dinner. We make a PS for in the morning for lunch and by the afternoon or before for that evening. Ususally they will have something available unless it is a show like HoopDeeDoo Review or Luau - they tend to need more advanced notice.

Here is a link to the allears site a previous poster mentioned. http://www.allearsnet.com/menu/menus.htm

I find it very helpful to look at the menus before I make a PS. We usually travel with the inlaws and DMIL can not eat certain things. This way I can make sure there is something she can eat too.

I think having a PS is a necessity. There have been many times we thought we'd just wing it and go where ever we felt like for dinner, but it doesn't always seem that easy all of the time. Many places are full and won't take any walk ins with out a PS. And if they do it is sometimes a long wait.

The last 2 times I've been to WDW (I go in October), I made a few PS arrangement about 3 weeks before (I wasn't trying for CRT since we are 2 adults & don't really care for Princess-themed things). However, I also made many arrangements the day of. We would walk into a park, walk by a restaurant, check out the menu, & make arrangements for later in theday. I don't know if it was easier because we are only 2. Still, I would suggest making PS in advance for meals that you absolutely wanted to do (we had to book Donald's Breakfastosaurus in advance because my sister is a HUGE Donald fan, and we didn't want to miss that one!)

We have stopped by the castle in the morning and been able to get a PS for dinner that night, but I would still make a PS so you have more control over what time.

If I remember correctly, you are 2 adults, so you should be ok making PS's the same day (except CRT) or not at all. When DH and I went (pre-kids) we never even knew about PS's & ate at some great places. As long as you don't have to eat at a specific time, and have some flexibility in your schedule (can eat at 7:30 instead of 5 or 6) then I think you'll be fine without too many pre-planned PS's.
