Question about Prime Time Cafe

I just saw some pictures of food there and it looks really good. However, we have a son with autism, and I know he wouldn't appreciate the interaction with the CM's. Can we ask to just eat, with a little interaction for DH and I, or would that make it a huge waste of money?

I guess I'm asking if the show makes the food, or the food is good enough on it's own to not worry about the show.

I'm sure you can request to keep the waiter interaction to a minimum or eliminate it all together. I know when we ate there earlier this month we really didn't get much of a show which I was quite happy about since I went more for the food anyway. I got a tad bit of grief for having my elbows on the table and he introduced us to the rest of our "family" who happened to be sitting in the same room but that was really the extent of it.

The food and the milkshakes were still terrific - I had the fried chicken and a chocolate malt and my wife had the meat loaf and a PB&J shake.

We ate dinner at 50s Prime Time for the first time in August, 2009. We each ordered something different and everything was tasty. Our waiter was funny but not overbearing. Now, the waitress at the table beside us was over the top and, honestly, I wouldn't have like her being our waitress at all! And, that's coming from a fun lovin' mother.

That being said, when you make your ADR, ask that they make a notation on your reservation that you don't want much interaction. You can also remind them when you check in.

I would definitely eat there again.

We honestly got about 5% interaction. Basically, our server threw the forks, etc on the table and took our order like we were a hassle and that was about it.:rotfl2: So, really I think it depends on the server you get! We liked the fried chicken that dh had there (and the collard greens were awesome as well!) but didn't care for the pot roast I had. I think that while we'd go back there, it wouldn't be at the top of our list.

Try to think about the noise level in that place too....very echoy.....does that bother your child? We went last September and the food and the milkshakes and the hot fudge sundae was fantastic....we also had the chicken ...But the noise level gave me a headache...I probably had the start of the headache with the heat but just a heads up on the noise..
have a great time

We've eaten here about a half of a dozen times and have NEVER had a CM who did the antics. However, the noise level in this place is pretty high. I think the food is good here.

If you have them note on our ADR that your son is autisic and ask them to put you in a "quiter" area and have minimal interaction I am sure they will accomodate you. We were in the room furtherest from the entrance and the tables in the back corner were pretty quite. Then when you arrive and check in, just remind the CM about your special requests.

Disney is very good about accomodating people with special needs, a good friend of ours has 3 children with Asbergers (sp) and they were so helpful. OT-You can also request at town hall a special pass so your son will not have to wait in the ride lines if he will be over stimilated.

Good luck!

We had lunch last year with our son with autism. We requested a "special" table - the ones with the TVs right there. If you look at the photo on the Disney website, that means you are up against a wall where the TV is.

He sat in the seat up against the TV and didn't really interact with our waiter/cousin. It worked out fine. He talked to him, but knew how to deal with it. When we got our clean plate stickers, he handed one to DS, even though he hadn't cleaned his plate. But he didn't ignore him - he just spoke to him and if DS didn't respond or look at him, he just moved on.

Honestly, I think so many CMs at Disney can handle autism that I wouldn't worry at all. I would mention it to the check-in staff, just tell them to keep the interaction to your DH and you. They will absolutely handle it!!

We families with autism LOVE Disney. Let me know if I can help with anything else.

i've eaten there twice, most recently this past october. honestly i think the food is ok, i don't love it. both times we were there someone in our party was picked on. you are probably better off taking your son to sci fi or mama melrose.

I wouldn't go just for the food. It was o.k at best when we were there. We would go back for the fun, though I know that's not what you are looking for. Good luck!

This is very good advice. We were seated in a quieter area not by request but by chance. It was cozy and I don't remember noise being an issue. My kids are a bit shy and were a bit worried about the interaction. I think our server sensed that and responded accordingly. The atmosphere (50's theme) is pretty neat and I think worth a visit.

Definitely tell them about your son's autism and I would think they will respond appropriately.
