I rented a car from Priceline and now I want to upgrade to a bigger SUV. I am a Hertz #1 Gold Club member and I wanted to know if I should make a reservation on the Hertz website for what I want and then when I get there can I pay the difference? Or do you think they won't do that?

Well, if you make the reservation with Hertz, the car they have for you is going to be charged to your credit card and I don't know if they will change you. In Orlando Gold reservations are in a different building and they are pretty strict about sending anyone without a gold reservation (which is your priceline reservation) to the other building.

I think your only hope is to go to the counter and request an upgrade. This is probably going to cost you a good amount. I mean what is the difference between the SUV rate and your priceline rate.

If you read the agreement for rental with Priceline I think you will see you cannot make any changes in the rental.

Last year I upgraded to a Navigator when I got to the Gold Member counter. I just wanted to reserve the car I needed to make sure they had it. I guess I will just wait till I get there and hope the have what I want and upgrade then.

Thanks for your imput.

We have never gotten Hertz via Priceline, but we've gotten Alamo twice and were offered a price for an upgrade both times. I thought the quotes were pretty costly so I didn't do it, but it never hurts to ask. With our first Avis Priceline ressie, we were upgraded at no cost.
