Question about President's week 2011

Hi! We are planning a trip 2/18-2/27 2011. I am waitlisted for 3 days for a 2 BR at VWL per my friend's report. (She is the owner and is gracious enough to let my family stay at Disney!) Should I make reservations as a back up plan for my trip now? or not worry about it since it is so far away? I've been told that this time of year is very busy, and I would hate to not have a definite reservation when it gets close.....I understand I could cancel a reservation up to 6 days before the trip without penalty.....I don't know what days are waitlisted.....my friend hasn't told me, and I haven't asked- don't want to be pesky or appear anxious- even though I am....so I guess I may reserve the whole time frame to play it safe.
Any thoughts?

Definitely have a back up! We drove to WDW for Presidents Week one year. We had a ressie but arrived in Orlando a day early and there was not one room on all of WDW property for us to stay in....or in the entire Kisssimme area! We wound up having to drive 30 minutes east of WDW to get a room. I do not "wing it" anymore....Make a ressie you can modify or cancel. Find out exactly what dates are confirmed first and plan around that.

I agree that a back up is in order. But now that the 7 month window is open for that week, you may want to have your friend book a 2BR for those nights at one of the resorts with openings and keep the wait list for the VWL. I was able to switch a reservation from the BWV to the BLT at 7 months. I'm sure there is still something someplace.

We go every other year (even years) at that time for the Daytona 500. This year was the worst with the crowds. There were also cheerleaders and band members from what felt like every HS in America. While it usually is crowded, this year was over the top.
Make sure you have a place to sleep before you get there. This is not the week to "wing it".
