Question about pool heat

We´re going in November-December and know we will need pool heat at the villa. I´m just wondering whether the pool will actually be warm. The pool didn´t have any cover last time we were there and I´m wondering how the heat stays in the pool overnight.

In order to keep the pool at optimum temp. you really need a pool blanket. You pay for the heat extra you want to make sure you get it and keep it.

Ask from who you are renting from if they have a pool blanket. You will need it for the time you are there.

Without a cover of some sort any heat built up during the day will disappear over night .If the home you are renting doesn't have a cover you may well be wasting your money by heating the pool as it will take a while everyday to heat up again.

I agree. We had a pool home Dec 2004 and it was very cold during that time. Even with the heat, the pool wasn't tolerable for anyone to get in. We finally figured out that there was a pool blanket in the garage and pulled it out and used it, and it made an enormous difference! Now, I know to ask about a pool blanket if we're renting a villa with pool in the winter!

You might want to ask what type of pool heater they have. Most use a heat exchanger, which pulls heat from the surrounding air. These don't really heat the pool much at night when it's colder (and not at all if they outside temp falls below 55 degrees).

Some homes however, have gas (propane or natural gas) powered heaters, or electric pool heaters, and these are capable of heating the pool 24 hours a day in any temperature. They also cost a lot more to run, which is why most people don't have them, but some do, you should ask!

With either one though, a pool blanket helps tremendously. Not all homes have them, so you should definitely ask.

A pool blanket for a 12 x 12 splash pool costs like $75 by the way, so they are not that expensive at all, no reason not to have one. Not having one actually would only drive the heating / energy bill way up, they pay for themselves in 1-2 months.
