Question about Poly vs. GF

We are planning on returning to Disney next June. Our original plan was to stay at the Poly but I am now having second thoughts. Having a balcony is very important to us and I just read that not all rooms have balconies at the Polynesian. I know that I can put in a request for a balcony room but I know that requests are not always granted. We have stayed at BLT and loved the balcony but really disliked the pool so I would like to avoid there. (We have a 3 year old who loves spending time in the pool.) My question is do all rooms at the GF have balconies?

TIA!

Yes, all rooms have either a full balcony or patio. And your 3 year old will love love love the pools and splash pad- I know mine did!!

If you go the GF route, I recommend asking for a non dormer room. Dormer rooms have smaller balconies and they're slightly enclosed, so harder to see out of unless you're standing.

We had a wonderful 3rd floor room in Sago Key overlooking the monorail last December! We spent a lot of time on our big balcony!!!

I loved the patio rooms we had at the Poly. We had originally requested balcony rooms and connecting rooms, with connecting the priority. This was the best disappointment ever! We enjoyed the expanse the patio allowed and because of the shrubbery, there was plenty of privacy.

With all of that said, the GF is a lovely resort that we also enjoy. It is spotless with beautifully maintained grounds and buildings. The service is impeccable, and it sports plenty if amenities that appeal to youngsters. Given the choice, especially if you really want a balcony, I would choose the Grand.

Several years ago we stayed at the BC, and thank goodness we stayed CL because we needed a little breathing room. We were given a Juliet balcony and that is just a fancy name for "big sliding window". If you need extra space, do not compromise. It is not fun!

when you say Poly do you mean the DVC studios (PVB) or the regular resort rooms (I asked because you mentioned staying at BLT previously)? If you mean the regular resort rooms then yes the second floor does not have balconies. However if you mean PVB ALL the studios have a balcony or patios. They are in 3 longhouses that were an addition to the original resort back in the 1980s and those longhouses were constructed with balconies on the second floor. Whatever you decide sounds like it will be a great trip :)

I am talking about the regular rooms. We paid cash to stay in BLT.

We've stayed at both and I don't think you can go wrong with either one as they are both awesome resorts. The Poly is our favorite overall, but the GF runs a very close second. With that said, if a balcony is a priority, I'd go with the GF. I also agree with the pp who suggested requesting a non-dormer room as the dormer room balconies are smaller and enclosed so it's harder to see out while sitting.
