Hi everyone,

Just bought 220 point at AKV. If I want to increase the number of point I have, DVC told me that I can buy up to 24 points from them but I forgot to ask if it was for every year (new total=240) or if it was only for 1 year. I know I can borrow from the next year but what if I go on the resale market and get the point cheaper?

Also, how the buying\selling aftermarket points is done? I mean how DVC is putting these aftermarket points into my account (from another member)?

Finally, where the $12 to $14 by point on the resale market is coming from? The value now is $150 a point. Is it because the financing goes up to 10 years and that makes for the around $15 range?

Thanks a lot!:)

If you add points to your contract, then they are yours for the rest of the contract, what ever year it ends. If you are buying just for that year, then they would only be that year. Is that were you are getting the $12 to 14?

Renting is a whole nother thing, the 12 to 14 is renting not buying. Current resale i have seen in the 80s range a point.

Resale is very easy, we just bought a BWV contract. You go thru a broker, we used TimeShare Store. They do all the work for you, tell you what to send etc. Its a real estate transaction. So you have a closing etc. Then the deed goes in your name, and the points get transferred to you.

You're interchanging of info between buying a contract and renting points.

The 24 points Disney quoted to you is essentially a one time rental/transfer. You may only "rent" up to 24 points in a single UY and if you had need for more points in that UY Disney would want to sell you a contract or you would need to look for a transfer or rental from an individual owner. But as along as Disney continues to offer this option you could "rent" up to 24 points directly from them every UY but it can only be done for reservations within the 7 month booking window.

If you want to purchase an additional contract then the cost direct will range from $135 or so up to $165 depending on the resort and size of the contract you want.

With resale the $12-14 quote is once again for a one time rental or point transfer. Purchasing a contract that you would have all the remaining years of points for your own use will cost something like $60 on up again depending on the resort and size of contract. And with buying a new contract you will also be responsible for the yearly maintenance fees.

The $12-14 a point is "renting" points. A member has point they can't or don't need to use and will make a reservation for that price (per point) for someone else who pays them for the reservation.

So if you "rent" points from another member, they would make a reservation for a single night (or more) for you to link to your reservation. But you don't own that reservation. You could also get a once a year transfer from another member if you are short some. But most members don't want to transfer small amounts because they are limited to one transfer out a year. And if they want to transfer out a lot of points, they are not going to transfer to you.

If you are continually short of points, you might want to consider either a direct purchase of another contract from Disney or a resale contract.

The 24 a year from DVC is limited to seven months out and once a year only. They cost $15 a point for the one time use points. If you are trying to get a hard to get reservation at your home resort, you don't want to purchase the one time use points.

Now another question. If a want a 10 days vacation but don't have enough points, can I take some (or the remaining) of my points and use the rented points on top of that? I guess not because the member has to do the reservation under his name with his points. Am I right?

Thanks!

If you have "rented points" from another member, it typically means that they have used their points to make a reservation in your name. You would not have any control over that reservation and could not make any changes without the other member's assistance.

However, if you arrange a transfer of points from another member into your account, you would be able to use those points the same as your own points. They could be used 11 months at the Home Resort for the transferred points or at 7 months for any reservation.

The "One-time-use-Points" available from MS can only be used at 7 months and cannot be banked. Points transferred from another member can be banked into the next use year.

there are 2 separate options: renting and transfers.

you can only "rent" a reservation, you cannot rent points...so in that case, right, you cannot combine your pts with their reservation that they own.

you would need to find a transfer. they would transfer the pts to you and you can use them (subject to their home resort booking window) pooled together with your pts to book your own reservation.
