Question about Points

After searching for an answer, and not finding any, here goes ...

I am completely confused about accruing points. I know if I buy
a contract from DVC I have to buy a minimum of 160 points x cost
per point = the price of the contract. Now what happens after I use
the original 160 points. Do I automatically get 160 new points the next
year and so on, or do I have to pay for them each year?
I hope this is not to simplified.

Go to the DVC section of the Disney website and read through the information they provide about DVC. Order the DVD, which will give you a great deal of information.

You buy your 160 point (or however many pts) contract, every year on the first day of your USE YEAR you get another 160 points for the year. This will go on for the life of the contract.

Plus you will pay annual dues for those points, currently running around $4-5 a point. They do go up annually.

I received the info packet from TSS and where there was a wealth of
information included there was nothing to explain my original question
that I saw. Will get the DVD from DVC.

So as I understand what you are saying is
160 points on purchase of contract
160 new points on UY anniversary date for life of contract at no
additional cost except yearly dues.

If you purchased a 160-point DVC contract from Disney today, you would have the following points in your account (using an October UY just as an example):

160 points valid for stays from now through 9/30/08
160 points valid for stays from 10/01/08 - through 9/30/09
160 points valid for stays from 10/01/09 - through 9/30/10
160 points valid for stays from 10/01/10 - through 9/30/11

and so on through the last full year of your contract which varies depending upon the resort you purchase:

AKV, OKW: 160 points valid for stays from 10/01/56 - through 01/31/57
SSR: 160 points valid for stays from 10/01/53 - through 01/31/54
BCV, BWV, HHI, VB, VWL: 160 points valid for stays from 10/01/41 - through 01/31/42

The above information is not quite true for those purchasing AKV at the moment. The first building (Jambo House) is pretty much sold out and the new building won't be ready for occupancy until next year. Depending upon the UY one purchases, you may or may not get 2008 UY points. But the point I was trying to make is that your points don't really drop into your account at the start of each new Use Year -- all of your points for every UY from now through the end of the contract will be in your account from the start. It's just that each set of points has a start and end date associated with them. You can also change those start and end dates by one year by banking points from one UY into the next UY or borrowing points from one UY into the previous UY.
