Question about points in "Reservation Status"

I've been keeping an eye on resale contracts and I notice that some have points in "Reservation Status". What exactly are reservation points? How do they work as far as booking (timeframes, policies)? Is it hard to book using reservation points and get what you want?

"Reservation Status" means that those points were used for a non-DVC reservation (cruise, onther WDW resort, DL resort, Concierge Collection) and later cancelled. The points have been returned to the account but may now only be used for another non-DVC reservation.

They cannot be banked and will expire at the end of the current Use Year. They cannot be used to reserve at any DVC resort or for the World Passport Collection since they were already committed to a non-DVC reservation.

They are returned to Use Year in which cancelled reservation falls, must be used during the UY and cannot be banked.

They CAN'T be used to book a reservation at a DVC resort (or WorldPassPort
destination) and I believe these points are limited to use within the Disney Collection only but can't be booked** (note: edited out 'used' in initial post) in last 4 months of the UY and subject to $95 booking fee.

** I think, and hopefully someone here will clarify for certain, that if you book into the
Disney Collection (except for DL resorts) BEFORE last 4 months of UY your TRAVEL DATES can be during last 4 months of UY... (?) Again, I'm not 100% on this particular point.

Hey Doc could you give a breif tutorial on "holding status" points?

Holding points were used for a DVC reservation that was cancelled at 30 days or less before the start of the vacation. Now you can only use them 60 days out or less to make a DVC reservation. They will expire at the end of your UY. Holding points cannot be banked.
