Question about points deposited in your account by another DVCer.

Just curious. Say I want to buy points from or trade points with another DVC member and they transfer them into my account, what "home" resort points do they qualify as for me?

For example. If I own at BWV but want to buy or trade points with a VWL owner and they transfer/deposit the points to my account, will I then have VWL points and will those points qualify me to make a VWL reservation earlier than 7 months?

I have been researching DVC and will make a purchase once the right resale comes along. However, I don't know much about the process for transfer of points between members. From what I have read this can be done.

Any help would be appreciated .

Points transferred to your account from another member will retain their original home resort (and the 11 month reservation priority) and original use year.

Point transfers are NOT supposed to involve any monetary exchange. The process can easily be handled thru MS.

As usual, DOC is absolutely correct.I "transferred" some points to another member last year and had a nice discussion with MS. Disney is well aware of the sale of points between members, but their policy is essentially, "Don't ask, Don't tell".

Interesting about transfers that are not supposed to involve monetary exchange. When we did the open house our guide told us that DVC members were free to rent their points. I guess you are only supposed to rent them to non DVC members.

Renting a reservation is fine and allowed in the documents- whether to a member or non-member. The exclusion is for transfers only (member-to-member, by definition) and is probably to keep DVC out of any controversy regarding payments for the points.

As EROS pointed out, DVC will not question a transfer. Only 1 per year- in or out- is allowed anyway. From a practical standpoint, there is no way for DVC to monitor whether the member received $$ or not. The wording is likely there to remove DVC from having to settle any disagreement- either you will transfer your points to the other member or not.
