Question about points and Use Year??

Hi,

I have been saving my 100 2013 points (AUG use year) to book a trip for this December in a studio for 3 nights. I'll be using the remaining 2013 points and 14 pts for a 2 bedroom for the remainder of the week.

When I booked online this morning, it took the points from the 2014 UY. I had plenty for my studio with the 2013 points. I'm anxious to resolve this as I need am planning to book a 2 bed reservation to extend the week.

Anyone know why this happened? I'm not real anxious to call member services with the long wait times everyone is experiencing, but I know I'll be calling this morning.

Did you bank your Aug 2013 points into your Aug 2014 UY prior to making the reservation? The on-line reservation system will not use points from the prior UY unless you've already banked them into the UY the reservation will take place during.

No, didn't know I had to. Guess I'll be calling member services today. I just assumed since I was still in my use year, that it would pull the points from there.

The following appears on the on-line booking page in the box titled 'Booking Tips'. You have to scroll to see it.

If you need to bank Vacation Points in order to book a specific Resort, this needs to be done before you can book online.

Everything is based on the UY that the vacation falls, not the UY you are in when you book...

In order to use Aug 2013 UY points for a trip in your Aug 2014 UY, the points need to be eligible for that trip, thus the reason they needed to be banked prior to using them. Without banking, those points are only valid until July 31st, 2014, making them unavailable for the Dec 2014 reservation.

A call to MS to bank them and then swap them out from your 2014 UY points should be an easy thing to do..given the hold time on the phone, what I might do is bank the points online first, then send a message via email to MS to ask that the change be made, mentioning you did not realize that you had to bank the points first in order for them to be used.

Thanks for all the replies. Called member services and had zero wait time. Very surprised. Moved points to 2014 UY and will be able to book Friday for the remainder of my week.
