We are headed to Disney on November 15th - November 20th for my son's 5th birthday.

I read about the pin trading and wanted to get my son involved.

I see that you can purchase disney pins in lots of 30, 50, 100, etc for about $1.10 per pin and use these for trading.

Do you think that 30 pins is enough for a 5 year old to trade with 4 days in the park?

Thank you!

30 is more then enough.. my daughter is five and I think we only have 10 or so..

Yes! I just went with a family of two new pin traders and they traded 12 between the two of them in 3 days, plus they bought some new ones. There just is only so much time for pin trading, ya know?? I actually enjoy trading too, and when my boys start a set of something, I am usually the one that finishes up with finding everything for them.

My mom and dad started the girls on pin trading last year. They started with 6 and ended up with 12. They don't seem to need more than that. We started with a cheaper multi packet and they were pretty quick at finding pins to trade with. At WDW all the CMs who have pins always trade. I don't know if that is the way it is at Disneyland.

Where can I buy the multi packs?

I bought some off eBay. I found a seller who sold them in any amount that you wanted to buy. So I bought 12 pins at around $1.00 each. I didn't buy specific pins, the seller just sent me 12 of whatever. Since we're using them for trading, it didn't really matter what we got and at $1.00, you can't beat the price!!

But......I'm sure Disney probably sells multi-packs.....maybe check the Disney Shopping website??

The disney multi packs in their store were around $22.95 per 4 pins.

You really can't beat the ebay deal.

We'll just pick out the ones we don't like and use those to trade with.

Just make sure you are dealing with someone that sells true genuine Disney pins, not scrappers. With ebay sellers, you cannot always be sure unless you are dealing with someone that someone else has hada good experience with in the past.

We trade pins at WDW with cast members does it work the same at DL? Does DL have different pins and can we trade the WDW pins?? First time to DL for my kids and husband, I have not been to DL in 30+ years!!! Can't wait!

Yes, always make sure to read their feedback. The seller I bought from had thousands of positive feedback about the quality of his pins.

Yes, it works the same. Yes, there are different pins (and some same pins). Yes, you can trade the WDW pins. (And please do so hopefully I can stumble upon the CM you traded them with and get some more WDW pins! ;) )

I went to WDW with 100 traders and came home 8 days later with all sorts of WDW pins, including "hidden mickeys" that were WDW exclusive and a bunch of Figment pins (which are also WDW exclusive, sadly :( )

You can browse pins at disneypins.com (official Disney site). Go to "all pins" and then sort by location from the drop down menu. You can then see pins that are "WDW" and "DLR."

Unfortunately feedback can mean next to nothing. Most pin buyers either don't know about scrappers or just don't care. FYI, there is a GREAT thread on the Collectors Board regarding good and bad eBay sellers, I would highly suggest visiting that thread just to learn a little about eBay and Disney pins. At $1 a pin I can almost guarantee that you will be trading scrappers. :( I do buy pins from eBay but not at a dollar a pin, unless I'm not trading them.

Pin trading is popular at DLR but the CMs there wear the lanyards voluntarily so you may not see as many at DLR/DCA as you would at WDW. Please visit our CB thread and have fun trading!! :)

I am sooo mad!! I honestly never knew there was such a thing as fake pins and after looking at the ones I got, I'm 99% sure they are fake. Dang it!!! I should have known that the deal was too good to be true on eBay!

I went over to the Collectors Board and read up on lots of great info. The seller I bought from was listed as a bad one (zoom_time). I really wish I would have known about this before I bought from him. I only bought 12 so I'm only out about $15....but still! It just annoys me that people do this.

The ones I got off eBay are noticably lighter in weight and compared to my real Disney pins, they do look like knock-offs. I will only buy pins in the parks from now on!!!

An update......I emailed the seller to say that after doing some research, I had found that the pins I bought to be not official Disney Trading Pins. I was past my 7 days for a refund so I wasn't expecting that. I also stated that I would be leaving negative feedback.

The seller immediately replied to me and was sorry for my dissatisfaction, asked for my confirmation to cancel the transaction and is refunding my money. The seller also asked that instead of leaving negative feedback to leave none at all. Not sure what I should do about that one........I got great customer service but I just don't think it's right to sell fake stuff and mislead people!

I don't think its right to not to leave feedback, they will just do it again to another seller! I'm sorry for that your pins weren't the real thing :flower3:

I know.......I'm really torn about it. This seller had over 2,000 positive feedbacks. People were just raving about how great these pins were! So part of me really wants to say that they are not official pins but the other part of me wants to wait until my refund goes through before I do that!

I agree!! Wait till you get your refund and leave the feedback :rotfl:

I would definitely wait until you get your refund, then leave feedback saying you weren't happy with the quality of the pins, you suspect scrappers and then say they gave you a refund. Customer satisfaction is important but so is knowing what you're getting is real and not fake! It bugs me to no end when sellers do that.......

I'm soooooooooo glad you found our thread and it helped!!! And I'm sorry you got fakes but it's working out for you! :) I hope you find some other pins at a good price. Personally I'm good with paying a little more to know I'm trading good pins instead of scrappers. :)

Just wanted to add, if you have ANY questions please let me know!! With 4 avid traders in the family we definitely go thru a lot of pins and I do use eBay for them, I'm sure you can imagine the amount of experience I have. LOL
