question about pin trading

Can you only trade pins at the different parks or can you trade at Disney quest and downtown Disney?

You can trade pins with ANY CM that is wearing a lanyard anywhere in Disney, parks restaurants, hotels...anywhere. There is a World Of Disney store at the airport and those CMs trade too!

A CM at Downtown Disney gave my then 21 month old a pin just because he made her laugh.

Of course then we just HAD to buy him a lanyard. He'll be turning 3 on our next trip, and now has pins to actually trade

There are professional traders at DTD so if you are needing a specific pin or looking to complete a set they will most likely have what you need. They are set up outside on the Pin Station.

If you are new to trading you'll want to be careful trading with non CM's. There are SOME sharks out there who will try to take advantage of your lack of knowledge. We have been trading for 5 years and rarely find the need to trade with anyone other than CM's. If you are looking for specific pins there are websites where you can find and trade for them (dizpins or pin pics) or you can check EBAY.
I will often trade w/ children who I see (on buses or monorails) still have starter lanyard pins who may be shy to approach a CM. BUT I keep an extra lanyard for kids to trade and they can pick any pin I have and I check w/ the parents first. I could understand why it would creep some people out to have a stranger ask to trade pins w/ their kids.

OTHER than the kids trading w/ other kids they meet around the hotels etc. we pretty much strictly trade w/ CMs. And we follow the official disney pin trading guidelines (ie: 1 pin for 1 pin trades only) You can find the official guidlines and pretty much anything else you want to know HERE...

even my travel agent trades pins. oh and the disney store employees trade them.

oh and dont overlook the maintenence people. they arent wearing a lanyrad because it gets in the way, but they have a swatch with the pins on them. my daughter got a great tinkerbelle pin off him and when we saw it on Ebay it was selling for $65.
also the monorail driver will trade...basically anyone on the payroll, lol.

There have been several times when we have come across great cast members who go into the back and look for a specific pin we are searching for. A cm at vero beach even sent us in the mail a pin from his personal collection that completed on of our sets.
