For our upcoming trip in April I am thinking for paying for our room with a cashiers check. I do not want to carry cash or hassle with so many travelers checks. I am splitting the room with my best friend so we won't want to use a credit card but our saved cash!! When we check in we want to put enough cash on our room account to pay for all our spa treatments, valet parking and any other room incidentals so I thought a cashiers check might be the simplest and safest way to carry this much money. Also if we do not spend all our money on our account {O.K. you can all stop laughing now!!} do they give you cash back?? Anyone have any experience with this?? Thank you in advance.

I suppose you could do it, but I'd certainly call the hotel directly to find out. I'd like to tell you a story about a lost cashiers check though...

Years ago I bought a cashiers check to pay for something. The check was lost in the mail. I had to fill out all sorts of paparwork with the bank, and they had to research it before they would issue another one. It was not done immediately, it took a couple of weeks. So if you had the misfortune of losing that cashiers check (or it got stolen or destroyed) you would be in a heep of a problem.

Travelers Cheques come in denominations of up to $100, so there really wouldn't be that many to handle. And if they are lost, stolen or destroyed, you can get replacements in 24 hours. Plus in this case, Disney will verfiy that the new ones are on teh way, and extend you temporary credit. I do'nt know that they would do that with a cashiers check.

I agree with Ducklite. I have lost traveler's checks and they are very easy to replace. Money orders and cashier's checks must be researched and can take weeks.

Thank you so much for the heads up on this. I would be frantic if I somehow lost that check!! Guess the safest thing to do is get the good ole travelers checks. I sure wish they came in $500 denominations.

minster22,

I work in a casino in Atlantic City and work with traveler's checks on a daily basis. I can assure you that they do come in $500 denominations. As a matter of fact, I saw one just last night. Call American Express or ask specifically for them wherever you purchase them from.

Have a great time!
