We are OKW owners and love that we can park right outside our rooms.

Now I know that SSR is the old Disney Institute, but I am sure it has changed a lot.

Can you park outside your rooms?

thanks for any help~ :love1:

Yes you can. It is set up the same as Old Key West.

No Valet parking at SSR.

I wouldn't go so far as to say it is the same as OKW. We stayed there last fall, and felt like the car was a long ways away from our unit. The buildings are quite large with long outdoor hallways. It just happened that our room was a long ways from the parking lot, and we found it inconvenient compared to OKW. We moved over to our OKW GV after a few days, and we were happy again! :teeth: Don't get me wrong, I think SSR is nice, but the parking is not one of the things I think is comparable.

:earseek: what!!! no valet parking at SSR?! well, but I guess if you park outside of your room..what would the need be for it? Can you tell I've only been to resorts with valet service?

Does anyone know if the Studio size compares to that of OKW?

We usually stay in a one bedroom, but are going a Fri and Sat night and have to get my parents a room and didn't want to burn all those points!

We stayed in an SSR studio for a Friday and Saturday night before our OKW GV stay last fall. It was comfortable for the two of us, and I suspect the size is comparable to the OKW studio. It is probably not as wide and has a larger kitchette area than OKW, but the bath room is tiny in comparison, and the closet/dressing area is a nightmare with all those doors! It was impossible for someone to be standing at the sink in the dressing area and have anyone else either get to the closet or open the bathroom door. The bed plus small hide-a-bed was comfortable for 2 people, but I'm not sure I would have wanted more than that in there.

Yes, sort of. It is not as close as OKW for parking but that depends on where in the building your room is located. But then again, it's real close if you compare SSR to any of the other DVC resorts. Our room was about as far as you could get from the parking lot. I would say it took less than 2 minutes to walk to the car.

So, no big deal.

In the past we have stayed at Boardwalk and it was a hike to the parking lot. I liked being in an area with a lot of action, but finding a parking spot and walking that far was annoying.

My studio room will consist of my and husband and I and my 2 children 9 and 7 (who will share the pull out sofa).

From the pictures I can find of the studio at SSR, it looks like the bed is almost against the wall on one side. The OKW studio is very large.

We were thinking of using our points form Port Orleans or Coronado since it works out to the same number of points, but the beds are only doubles and my husband is 6'2", and that is just too small of a bed for us. We have a king at home, so we can't do smaller than a queen and be comfortable.

Thanks to everyone, and if anyone has any photos of the rooms themselves and can email them to me, I would love that! (MCazer@aol.com)

As was said, the closeness of the parking at SSR depends on where your villa is in the building. It's certainly closer than any but OKW. The OKW studios are large but they have two beds, not a pull-out. We really missed having the couch for relaxing and watching TV. It felt more like a hotel than a vacation home. We were on the first floor on the end of the building at SSR and just had a very short walk from the parking lot. Even with the worst case it doesn't come close to the distance to walk at BWV, WL or the others with big central lots.

You are right, the bed IS right next to the wall. It would be difficult to walk around the bed like you do at OKW. I know the bed was supposed to be a queen, but it seemed small to me. I think you will be fine with the kids on the pull out, but you will be cramped when the bed is pulled out, because it will come right up to the table.

We stayed there in July and I would agree with you.
OKW has a fairly small parking lot for each building and the buildings have a lot less units per building.
SSR has a large parking lot shared by a number of buildings. Since the buildings are large, you can end up a lot farther away than at OKW.
But, it is a lot closer than parking at any of the other DVC villas other than OKW.
