Question about opening up verandah dividers on the Magic.

We will be cruising with friends next year and comparing different dates. One date we're considering is on the Magic. We'd like to be able to open the divider on the verandah but just wondering if that's only possible where the rooms also connect? We really don't need connecting rooms but I don't want to be disappointed that our divider doesn't open. This would be deck 6 between midship and aft elevators.
I'd appreciate any tips or past experiences.

Pretty sure being able to open the verandas isn’t an option on the Magic or the Wonder. You may find it’s nicer to not have to worry about keeping your curtains closed until you’re ready to socialize. You’ll share at least dinner and there are lots of places where you can be together. My Mim and I traveled with my Aunt & Uncle and we chose cabins on opposite sides of the ship - so we could share an alternative view.

It's my understanding that one of the changes to the Magic on a previous dry dock was making all the verandahs connecting. Even if the rooms themselves don't have a connecting door.

Hopefully someone who knows for sure will see the question and answer for sure.

This was my understanding as well but I haven't had my own proof of it.

It definitely is an option. We had connecting rooms with our kids in the past on a Norway sailing before covid and opened our divider. What I'm not certain of is if even non-connecting rooms have balcony dividers that open.

@Girl of the South We have sailed with my parents and extended family many times and completely appreciate your point about too much togetherness and the need for some privacy. On cruises with 19 of us, we all agreed to just meet for dinner and that was enough.

In this case, it's with my BFF who happens to be married to dh's BFF and our kids are all grown. We rarely get to see them these days due to life circumstances and it will be so nice to be able to relax together and catch up. It's only a 4-night cruise. They have sailed once with us on DCL when the Dream first entered service, but they're not huge Disney people so having an alternative quiet place to sit together, besides the adult pool area, would be a huge plus.

Did some Googling . . . and this seemed like a reasonable explanation? You can get the verandas connected, but not with every pair of cabins. Here is a side view of the Magic. See where there are solid columns? Those are structural and cabins on either side of that 'pillar' can't connect via the verandas. Makes sense?

Found this YouTube video where the Veranda partition is being opened . . but you'll see that they can't open to the NEXT veranda because it's a solid partition. This is on the Wish. Assume it's true of all the ships.

Smart thinking peeps! :thumbsup2
I will be sure to avoid the pillar/partition cabins.
I those are slightly cheaper due to the obstructed view. That would be a hint. I’ll read statement reviews too.

I don't believe those cabins are "obstructed view"? We had this on the Fantasy but it wasn't considered obstructed view and was not cheaper.

I just priced a 4 night trip on the Fantasy for December 2026. 2 people. Deluxe Family Oceanview Stateroom with Verandah. A 4B cabin. The photo with that little side wall thing was Cabin 8608 and it sleeps 4 (no Murphy Bed). The cost for that cabin is $3,073.14. The cabin right next to it, that doesn't have that little side wall thing is exactly the same price. It's not considered an obstructed view by DCL.

THIS is an obstructed view. Just not sure if you will be able to tell which cabins have verandahs that can be connected just by the price. I do think they need to be the same category, though.

Yes, Ive had them on the Magic.

For some reason, I think the type in your first picture used to be slightly cheaper way back, years ago. I think we have booked those cabins for that reason but then later changed to something else that opened up before sail date.

Anyway, maybe we’ll just book connecting cabins. Those should have connecting verandahs.

I’m not using proper terminology but those are slightly cheaper than other cabins that don't have that metal frame.
They are not cheaper. Navigator's verandahs or obstructed view verandahs are cheaper but the ones in question are not considered either.

I usually check stateroom reports to make sure the rooms I want have connecting verandahs.

We have had several verandahs with the pillar to the side. None were cheaper. None were navigators verandah. You just lose a tiny bit of verandah with the extra metal.

The verandah divider was open on our last cruise on the Disney Magic. I had to get the stateroom host to lock it shut.
We have had this experience multiple times on the Magic, where the divider unlatched itself in the middle of the night when the seas started rolling a bit and began swinging around, banging against the chair on the verandah and making an awful racket. Locking the divider in place requires a tool similar to an allen wrench except it is a square about 6 mm across rather than the hexagon of an allen wrench. One time, I was able to close the divider and relatch it using the pen from the desk drawer to turn the cam lock. The next time it happened, we had to wait until morning so the stateroom host could use the right tool to do the job properly. Now we check that the divider is properly secured when we first arrive in the room. If not, we have the stateroom host secure it properly.
