Question about Onboard Booking - First timer

Our extended family has cruised together 3 times on DCL - each time thinking "this is a one time trip" - so we have never done the onboard booking or even looked into it. Just my family (DH + 3 DS's) has decided we must do another DCL cruise, so we just booked one for June of this year (Dream, Castaway double dip - so excited!). We are also assuming we will want to cruise again in 2019, so are planning to take advantage of the OBB this June.

Question: When I look up the identical cruise (Dream Castaway Double Dip) in June 2019, it is ~$1,000 less than what I just paid for our last minute June 2018 trip. So, should I go ahead and book a cruise for June 2019 and then reshop on board in June 2018 to see if the 10% discount is worth more? Or, should I just wait and book on board? I have searched the boards and there seems to be quite the science to booking in order to get the best deal. For example, I didn't even realize that Silver reservations open up early. So, although this will be our 4th DCL cruise, I am feeling like I haven't been too smart about how to get the best value! Thanks in advance!

If you have the income to put down the deposit, the adage is generally book now and re-shop later.

Yep, 10% discount and for 7 night cruises you get a $200 onboard credit to your account. Less than that is a $100 credit. You can use it for shopping, drinks, excursions...anything you'd charge to your room.

Just to clarify...

The Onboard Credit is on the cruise you BOOK; not the one you are currently on.

I only clarify because (at least in the past) you could choose on RCCL - though putting the credit on your current cruise made the deposit no refundable.
