OK, don't shoot me if this has been asked a gazillion times, but I got tired of digging through the wonderful info on here (too much of it:goodvibes). If we buy into DVC (are not current owners), does that mean we will never be able to have free dining? (I know if we bought a package, including having to pay for a hotel room we could----but I mean staying on DVC points.) TIA

Yes this has been asked a gazillion times and the answer is no you cannot get free dining w/DVC. Sorry.

Even if you are a DVC member, you can still get free dining - BUT you have to book that through DRC (not Member Services) and you have to purchase a package - room at rack rate, tickets for everyone. Then you can get free dining.

So there is nothing stopping you from getting free dining, except for your wallet.

I have a reservation at BWV for a 1 bedroom for 6 nights at the beginning of December. 155 points. I could get "free dining" but that room would be $3,000 for the 6 nights, plus I would have to buy tickets (we have AP's). So the choice is use 155 points and pay out of pocket for dining (or buy the dining plan for about $480 for the 2 of us) or pay $3,000 for the room through CRO, buy tickets and get "free dining". Hmmmm......:scratchin

We too are DVC owners. Just for the fun of it, my DH priced a room for "Free Dining" the differences for the rack room with the dining is about 100.00 less than if you would purchase the room and than buy the dining plan.
So..... is it really "Free" dining! :confused3
No, they up the room price and tell you it is.
Throw in the word free, and people are happy.
Just like we are happy in our DVC Villas:lovestruc

So, the moral of the story is.....you're getting a much better deal through DVC. And don't need to wait around for Disney to offer one of their 'deals', and hope it's offered when we're going, and hope it's offered for the resort we want. We get those great deals anytime we want to go, for the next several decades.

Work out the math, and see what a DVC villa would cost you for a typical stay on points. Add the dining plan.

Then figure out what that same villa would cost you as a cash reservation, with free dining.

You'll be very pleasantly surprised, I think.

Exactly! When comparing like accomodations, free dining is much more expensive than DVC. The only way to "save" is to stay on a Value or mod or get upgraded for free! :)
