Question about MVMCP Tickets

We have never been to a hard ticket event and I'm a little confused about how the tickets work. If we purchase tickets to the party, do we also use a day on our My Way ticket entitlement? We do not have hoppers and I'm wondering if we can go to another park in the morning and then hit the MVMCP after 4:00.

You can enter the MK as early as 4 pm using just the MVMCP ticket.

I think the best strategy not to use a park ticket for that day. Sleep in, go to DTD, go to the pool, eat at Chef Mickey's or Ohana, or check out another resort (maybe Animal Kingdom Lodge). Then, hit the party right at 4.
