My in laws are going to WDW is Sept and our TA booked them a room with a military discount. They are also going to purchase military discount tickets. She said to make sure he brings his military id card. My Father in law was in the Marines in Vietnam and was given an honorable discharge in 1969. He said the only type of military id he has is his discharge form DD 214 MC. He said this is the id he shows when applying for loans and such. Should this be suffient for Disney? He does not have any type of "id card" Also, he does not want to take the original. Is a photocopy ok, or should he get a notorized copy? Thanks in advance!

Is he RETIRED military (i.e. 20 yrs of service)? If not, he cannot purchase the special $138 tickets. I'm not sure about the regular military discounted tickets you can get at Shades of Green. I'm also not sure the TA is correct about the hotel discount. There is a sticky somewhere that has all the rules for the military discount. I think you better read it carefully.

The sticky is on the theme park stategies thread home page. It's written by Cheshire Figment and called something like "everything about WDW tickets."

Agreed. I forget the name of the actual card you get. If you search you will probably find it. Just having been in the military in the past is not sufficient for the WDW discount, unfortunately. My FiL was in Vietnam as well. Served 4 years total but he is not eligible for the type of card need for the discount. WIsh I could think of what it's called.

Thanks so much for the claiification. I will look at the other thread.

As far as I know he won't be able to get the room discount at Disney resorts with only a DD214. He would be able to stay at Shades of Green with that, and I believe only in Jan and Sept.

Not sure about the tickets, I don't think he can get the Armed Forces tickets either.

My DH had only a DD214 until Dec (went back in Active Reserve) and we weren't able to participate.

Eligibility and Definitions

A service member has a current active duty, including active reserve, or retired ID card from the Air Force, Army, Coast Guard, Marine Corp, or Navy. This includes disabled veterans whose ID Card indicates DAVPRM.

A dependent is the spouse or other relative of a service member who has an ID card (DD Form 1173) which shows the service member as the sponsor.

A guest is any person not a dependent accompanying the service member.

Not eligible on their own are persons who would normally have access to military bases and/or Shades of Green (SoG) such as DoD Civilians, NAF, USPHS and veterans who are not retirees. This list may include others. People who fall into this category may, however, be dependents or guests

To qualify for the Retired Id card, he would have to have retired after 20 years of service. That card is just like mine, except it is tan, mine is pink.
