Question about making Room Requests?

We have booked our first family Disney vacation for the end of March. I have a standard room at CBR. I noticed from reading many posts people keep talking about putting their "requests" in. I just wanted to find out more details about that? I would love to have an upgraded room or a room in a prime spot whatever that is. Can someone let me know what I need to do to put in a request and what I should ask for.

Generally, room requests mean things you don't have to pay extra for such as a certain building with standard rooms, a certain floor (some people need a first floor room or some like a top floor room), something near the food court, something away from the elevators, etc.

If you want a preferred room (generally, one that is the closest to the food court/bus stops), you would have to pay extra for it.

I fax the resort 5 days before we arrive and request a certain building or floor...they have granted my wish every time!

You can't put in a request for an upgrade or even a 'prime location'. Those 'prime locations are considered preferred, and cost more. If you want one, book it. Otherwise....people put in requests for particular bldgs, based on what type room they paid for. They may want to be closer to a pool, or to a food court, or a bus stop. Or they may prefer a ground floor room vs one up a level.
You are best served by putting in any of these requests when you make the reservation. If you didn't, then you can call whomever you booked the room with, and have the requests added at that time.
Some guests fax their requests several days before they arrive. I never have and have had very good results. Up to you how you wish to do it.

I stayed there in Dec. in Jamaica and loved it!! Faxes can get lost pretty easily so I would call the call center and make sure they put it in the "comments"
