question about making adr's?

Can I still make an ADR if I haven't booked my trip? I'm 5 months out from our next vacation, but we won't be booking it until January. I'd like to book a few that will be hard to get (character meals, etc.) If so, what do they ask? We'll be on the dining plan, so do I tell them that?

Yes you can book ADRs. Local people in Orlando, people who stay offsite, and many others dine at Disney restaurants. Your ressie has nothing to do with ADRs unless you want to use the 180+10 ADR thing, which is pretty much of a waste of time anyway.

When they ask about DDP, tell them you haven't decided yet. They don't need that info, and I think the only reason they ask is to try to sell you the DDP. The only person in the system who needs to know about your DDP is your server.

You can definitely book an ADR without a reservation but depending on where you would like to eat they definitely do need to know if you are on the DDP. Some ADR's require a credit card which is charged in full immediately upon making the reservation except if you are on the DDP then they just take the credit card number to hold and charge if you are a no show. If you do make a reservation at one of these and are charged in full but decided to ultimately use the DDP then you can get credited the full amount but just wanted to point out that sometimes the CM's (not just your server) do need to know.
