Question about making ADRs for January 09

We are planning a trip for January 09 and will be staying on site. I have read that packages are usually released sometime in August. My 180 day mark would be in July. I was told that if I book a room only reservation now then I would need to cancel and re-book a package when they are released. If I do this would canceling my original reservation cancel all of the ADR’s I had tied to my original reservation? I’m trying to find out if I’m going to be able to do the 180 +10 or if I’m going to have to call every day to secure my reservations at the 180 day mark tying back to a phone number rather than a reservation number.

We are planning are first trip to WDW in January, 2009 as well. I was told that ADRs have nothing to do with your room reservations and they are booked separate. So we are going to take our changes and try it. I figure if it isn't true, then everyone else is in the same boat.

ADRs are not connected to a room or package reservation. Anyone (even guests staying off site) can make ADRs, so no worries!

I understand that anyone can make an ADR reservation at the 180 day mark and they do not need to be tied to your reservation nor do you need to be staying on site to do it. But my understanding if you want to do the 180 day + 10 for staying on site that you must provide a reservation number and your ADR’s are tied to that registration number. So if I book a room only now, and then I change to a package, since they have to cancel my original reservation and re-book all of my ADR’s would be cancelled as they were tied to the original reservation. Does anyone know if this is correct or not?

Your dining reservations will be fine. We did this last year. I linked all my ADR's to my phone number so I didn't have to worry about my reservation number changing. They asked where we were staying and when to confirm we were on-site guests. I can't remember if I still had to give them the reservation number or not but everything was fine. No worries!

I do this every year. Our specials for WDW packages don't come out until the end of September beginning of October. We head down in March though, so my ADR's have to be made in September. So I call everyday starting at 180 days and book my ADR's and have had no problems. The CM's even say to me, talk to you tomorrow about the same time When My package is booked that is when I call WDW and add all my ADR's to my reservation #.
