We are going to Walt Disney World through the make a wish foundation. Just got the call yesterday that my daughter qualifies. It will be another 2 weeks before they call to set up an appointment to come talk to us. Mean while was wondering if anyone knows anything about how they work with wishes. If they choose the lodging or do you have a choice?
Not sure about how many rides we are able to do. As my daughter has a seizure disorder and I have heart problems. So thinking we may want to avoid any really fast rides. We did not plan on doing any roller coasters. But since we have never been there wondering also what rides we may be able to do or which ones we should avoid? :yay: :woohoo:

I don't have a real good Internet connection right now, so I will give a short answer and point you toward some resources.

Most families on Make A Wish trips stay at Give Kids the World Village. This is a special resort set up just for families on Wish trips from various organizations. There are a lot of advantages to staying there, including free meals and a lot of special activities and facilities available only to families on Wish trips.
Some families do stay in other places, either because Give Kids the World is full or because staying at a certain resort was part of the child's wish. The stays at other resorts are sometimes shorter because the cost to individual Make a Wish chapters may be higher.

I would also suggest you visit the Wish Trippers thread. You can usually find it somewhere on the first page of this Board. There is also a link to the Wish Trippers thread in post 3 of the disABILITIES FAQs thread. You can get to that thread from a link in my signature.

Post 23 on page 2 of the disABILITIES FAQs thread has a list of attractions with warnings. There are no specific warnings for people with seizures and most people with seizures don't need to avoid any attractions. There is more information in post 3 of the disABILITIES FAQs thread.
In general, for seizures, the important things to keep in mind that avoiding dehydration, getting enough sleep and keeping on schedule with medications are the most important things.

Thank you so much. I will check out the link. I am glad to know that most of the rides she will be able to do. :woohoo:

if you end up at Give Kids The World for your stay,it is a great place to stay. we were there in June for grandsons trip. they do everything possible to make it the best trip ever. we got 3 days hopper passes for Disney, 2 days hopper passes for Universal/Islands of Adventure and 1 day at SeaWorld plus all the activities at the Village. special parking at all the parks. older brother has now asked for same trip for himself.

Lilacs - Is WDW a must? My daugther's wish was to meet Mickey so immediately we thought WDW but once we really put some time into thinking about her and her issues we opted to do the cruise through MAW.
She also has seizures, heart condition and spinal stenosis. Rides are an issue due to medical and being in the heat always causes rise in seizures. She uses a wheelchair for any distances so unfortunately at WDW she will be stuck in her chair most of the time.
Maybe a cruise would work for your family too.

Thank you that really would make her day.

Yeah she really wants Walt Disney world as she would really like to spend a day at the conservation station with a vet. If at all possible. Her greatest dream is to become a vet and work for Walt Disney World. I don't think heat has increased my daughter's seizures as she is in parades every summer and so far has not had a seizure during a parade thankfully. I hope she never does. :woohoo:

Good luck then on getting just what DD wished for.:) Our MAW chapter moved quite fast. We had approval within three days of our first meeting, we picked dates and were booked within two weeks. We sail in 50 days!!
