Hey everyone!
My DD and I fly in (Air Canada) in a couple of weeks and have ME ressies. Haven't gotten the tags yet - so I'm sure that my answer will be on there but if anyone can help me out now, it would be greatly appreciated.

OK - since we are flying in from Toronto - do we have to claim our baggage and then go to the bus area? Or is it the same for us, where we can basically just get off our flight and go directly to the bus area - and Disney will collect our bags?

Anyone know?

Thanks

they will collect your bags for you i didn't have the right tags for mine as they did not come in the mail on time i just let them know what my tags were like and gave them a discribtion of my luggage. even better would be to take a picture and give that to them

No - I don't think I explained my question right.... oops
I just meant that since it's an "International Flight" - do I have to pick up my bags and do anything customs wise before going to the bus?

I was told since we clear customs in Toronto we can let ME pick up our bags as everyone else after we go to ME's counter to register

No you will clear customs in Toronto, but if you can handle it, bring your bags to the bus with you. That way you will have your luggage as soon as you arrive to the resort!

Thanks everyone! We arrive at MCO at 9:30 in the morning - and I plan on bringing clothes to change into in our carry on luggage. With just DD7 and I, I would much rather just leave the luggage for ME to take care of LOL so this is great to hear!

:):):):):)

You HAVE to collect your bags and take them to the trolley that shuttles them to the other terminal for you. You then can take them to the magical express counter and take them on the bus with you and not have to wait for a few hours for them to arrive at your hotel or you can then take your baggage stubs from the airline that they usually attach to your boarding passes and give them to the ME check in and they will collect them for you and take them the rest of the way.
You do have to collect them originally though to go through immigration.
I like to take them with us on ME....I just like to know where they are and not have to wait for them....I always have something in them I am wanting and sometimes you can wait a long time for them to show up.

So just to clarify.

You can either pick them up yourselves at baggage claim and then proceed over to the ME counter, and they will immediately put them on the bus that you are travelling on. If this is the case, and we are staying at a value, I would just collect my bags once we arrive at the hotel and checkin and take them to our room as normal.

Or.

Just leave them at baggage claim and Disney will pick them up and deliver them to our hotel sometime after we arrive?

Sorry, I'm just a bit confused.

Thanks!

If you don't get your tags soon call the ME 800 number to see if everything is okay. I was worried because I hadn't received my tags and it turned out they were sent back because the address was incomplete. Three days later I got the new tags Fedex-d to me.

And like others said, if you go through customs in Toronto, you don't have to pick up your bags in Orlando.

Yes, Mollyseven - you've confused me now too! LOL You say that you HAVE to pick up your luggage and transport it somewhere first?

I was under the impression that if I want ME to take my luggage to the hotel (I don't care if it takes a few hours) - then DD and I can basically just get off the plane and find the bus area? Am I wrong?

(Granted, this was before the Disney Magical Express, going through customs AT Orlando)

Arriving on a flight from Toronto to Orlando required retrieving your bags TWICE. Once in the outer terminal building, in the security section, where you had to get your bags, from one conveyor, carry them across the room, and place them on another conveyor. Then, you took the little shuttle train to the main building, and then re-claimed your baggage there. I am guessing that the Disney Magical Express claims baggage at the main terminal, meaning you would still have to move your luggage across the room at the security section.

Thanks,

Thanks,

This only applies if you clear USA customs in Orlando. Most flights out of Toronto to Orlando clear USA customs in Toronto. The OP is flying Air Canada, and 100% of Air Canada's flights out of Toronto to the USA clear USA customs in Toronto.

Since the OP will be clearing USA customs in Toronto, the flight will be treated the same as any USA domestic flight. She will not need to pick up (or see) her luggage in Orlando. DME will handle the luggage transfer.

The best part of DME is luggage transfer. You can walk through the airport and not have to worry about waiting for your bags.

Everyone says you can give your bags in toronto and not see them until you get to disney but we just came back 2 weeks ago and that is not how it went for us.
We flew from toronto to orlando and when we arrived in Orlando everyone was told that even if you have the yellow disney me tags you still have to collect your bags from the carousel and put them on the transfer carousel for the other terminal. Then you can go on the shuttle over and go to ME and hand them your baggage tickets for them to get them for you and take them to disney.
It was very confusing and we always find it easier to just wheel our own bags to ME and take them on the bus with us. Really if you don't have a car seat or alot of bags. We always have 3 checked in bags and each have a carryon and still it's just as easy. Once we got to CBR they transport it to your room anyway after you check in.
The whole customs thing in Toronto and baggage thing is always confusing for me. It never seems to be as easy as it sounds.

Who told you this? What airline did you fly, and did you clear customs in Toronto or Orlando?

I've read other posts telling about how they had to handle their luggage twice. In seemed, though, that they were charter flights i.e. not WestJet or AC. It would be interesting to find out for sure!

I think if your flying from Toronto - Orlando & you clear Customs in Orlando, that would be if you fly Air Transat. I have read people say when they flew them they cleared Customs in Orlando. My family & I have flown both Air Canada & Wesjet to Orlando, each time we cleared Customs in Toronto. When we arrived in Orlando once we got off the plane we walked right to baggage claim.

We just got back from our vacation yesterday. We didn't get our yellow tags in time but it would have been moot anyway since our flight arrived very late and our luggage would arrive 2-3 hours later to the resort.

So we picked up our baggage from the 'A' side of the Terminal and schlepped our luggage over to the DME desk at the 'B' side. The bags came on the bus with us and we didn't have to wait up past 3am for our bags.

We took Westjet at Terminal 3 and cleared customs in T.O. - no other checkpoints at the Orlando gate.

Welcome back! :) How far of a walk is the A side to the DME desk on the B side? I've always booked a towncar in the past so I've never been to the other side of the terminal.

The A and B are just opposite sides of the building so it's a 10 minute jaunt directly across.

This is the route I took with Westjet.
