I have never used this service and will be trying it for the first time this June. I am also helping a co-worker plan his WDW trip for the week after Christmas 2006. Will the Magical Express still be available that weekafter Christmas, for his trip?

Although there is no offical confirmation of this, it seems that the answer to your question is: "Yes, but there will be a fee."

Disney's Magical Express will be available and complimentary at least through the end of 2006.

Disney has never said there will be a fee — only that Magical Express will be complimentary through the Happiest Celebration on Earth.

Hi HH,

You're right as far as it being free through the HCOE, but the HCOE ends before December.

It has been rumored that Disney has extended the complimentary DME until the end of '06, even though the HCOE ends in Nov....has anyone seen anything official yet? I'm assuming that we won't be paying for our 'ride' in mid-Oct but I have no idea 'officially' if I'll be riding for free in Dec.

The last time the question of charging for Magical Express came up, I wrote:

Here's the official wording from Disney from the original Magical Express FAQ:

Will Disney’s Magical Express continue on a complimentary basis after the “Happiest Celebration On Earth” has concluded?

While no determination has been made, our focus right now is the successful launch of Disney’s Magical Express as a great new benefit for our guests.

My guess is that Disney's Magical Express will continue to be complimentary.

Disney isn't offering DME on a complimentary basis during the Celebration just to be nice.

The business reasons for Disney's Magical Express are to increase the perceived value of Disney-operated on-site lodging (to increase occupancy and to decrease the need for big discounts) and to discourage guests from having rental cars (which make it easy for guests to spend money off-site). Those business reasons will be just as valid in 2007 and beyond as they are in 2005 and 2006.

Sure, Disney could get some revenue by charging a fee for DME, but it would also discourage guests from using DME. The operating costs for DME would not go down appreciably, but the motorcoaches would have more empty seats, on-site lodging yields would be likely to go down, and more guests would spend money on off-site dining, shopping, and attractions.

Of course, I could be wrong (but in this case, I don't think so).

Horace Horsecollar-

You have it right- we decided to stay on-property this year with our DS 9 months old b/c we didn't want to rent a car at the airport and mess with our luggage. We go to Disney annually and have spent time on and off property.

So, DME should continue to be complimentary if they are smart- b/c it can't cost them that much and it will ensure people like me continue to stay on property vs. off.
