My sister informed me that her friend, who works for a reputable doctor, can get her liposuction for free. Well, needless to say she is extremelt excited about doing it. I tried to convince her not to do it for many different reasons...(the fat will come back...it's only temporary....it comes back in other places....)but she insists that the reasons are false.

Has anyone had this procedure or can give me information on it the proves that I am wrong?

I have no direct experience with this, but know a couple people who have done it and there is a doctor on every other week here in town who talks about it.

I understand that the "perfect" candidate is someone who is at or within their ideal weight, but has "fat pockets" that have not gone away. They would be such that they look out of proportion with the rest of you. This doctor is well respected and that logic made sense, so under those circumstances I could see going ahead with it.

I have so far to go to be in my ideal range I'll have plenty of time to think about it!

I really can't imagine ANY reputable doctor performing liposuction for free. That's absurd. Now he may offer a reduced rate to his employees but even that is rare, and I wouldn't trust it. It is very unprofessional and if you're letting someone perform surgery on you, you want them to be professional and QUALIFIED. I have had successful lipo but there are plenty of horror stories out there and they always have one detail that makes you go"Oh my God, well of course they were a quack!" The promise of getting it for free would be one such detail.

Your sister could end up scarred for life or worse!

I had lipo about four years ago. About 10 pounds of fat were sucked out of my tummy and midriff areas. At the time, I was about 60 pounds overweight (still am) but my stomach was sagging and looked horrible when wearing bathing suits, etc. I was very self conscious.

For a birthday gift, my sister paid for the surgery. It was successful and my stomach was a lot tighter. I was still overweight, but I didn't feel as fat. Over the last couple of years, I gained weight. Most of it didn't go into the liposuctioned areas. Instead, it went to other areas and especially into the breast area where I least needed it. Even though I recently lost 25 pounds, my breast size hasn't changed yet and I still have difficulty getting clothes to fit properly.

The surgery itself is safe when performed by experienced physicians under the right circumstances. The recuperation period was difficult to say the least. If I had to do it again knowing what I know now, I would say for me it probably wasn't worth it at that point in my life. Maybe it would have been after I was closer to my ideal weight and still had a sagging tummy.

I hope this will help you a little with your request for information.
