Question about linking two reservations and the 7-month window

Hi folks -

So we have three contracts and a lot of points at OKW and a small 4th contract at BLT. We booked a stay this morning at BLT starting on March 7th. Because we want 9 nights, we used the BLT points for the last two nights and used OKW points for the first 7 (in two reservations).

I was surprised to learn that I can't link the reservations until all the nights are in the 7 months' window, regardless of the fact that all nights were booked at home resorts.

I'm not necessarily complaining, because I think it will be fine, but can someone explain to me why it would be unfair to someone else if MS allowed us to link the two reservations before this Sunday? I just want to understand the rule better in case we do it this way going forward...

That one may simply be a system limitation. I'm trying to think if there would be something one could do where you could end up rebooking the 2 days you used the home resort advantage for with non-BLT points and there probably is but I think that would be rare.

What MS most likely wants to do is to merge the reservation into one and at that point I think someone could call in in 2 or 3 days potentially to cancel the 1st couple of days and the system might return BLT points which would not be right to have happen, unless those last 2 days were still available to be booked. That's my best guess.

We linked two reservations into one for our last trip and one reservation was based on my DSIL's points. However the CM at check it said it looked like one continuous reservation. Perhaps there is a system problem identifying that they are different reservations just linked.
