Question about Linking Reservations and the DDP

Suppose that I go home and spend 3 nights in a 1-br and then move into a 2-br to spend another 5 nights.

Let's also suppose that I have the DDP for each reservation.

If I link the two reservations, can I save TS credits from the first 3 nights in the 1-br to use during the following 5 nights in a 2-br, or will the credits from the first reservation expire after I move into the 2-br?

The good news: When reservations are linked, you must purchase the DDP for all of the nights spanned by both reservations, so you could save TS credits from earlier in the stay to use later in your stay.

The bad news: I don't think you can link reservations that are for different room types. Since you are moving from a 1BR to a 2BR, I don't believe those two reservations could be linked. So I believe your first set of dining credits would expire at midnight on the last day of that first reservation.

As I understand it, the reason linking exists is so that MS can link reservations together when someone has to book their stay as two separate reservations, but for the same type of room (1BR, 2BR, whatever) at the same resort. For example, when a member books part of their stay as a points reservation and the rest as a cash reservation, these two separate reservations are then linked because they are two parts of one stay in the same type of room. If they aren't linked, the guest would likely be assigned two different rooms for the two parts of the stay and have to move part way through their trip. MS can also link reservations made using points from two different master contracts, say if someone owns multiple master contracts and books a 3-night stay using points from one contract and a 2-night stay using points from the other master contract, but for the same room type. If not linked, these two separate reservations could get assigned to two different rooms.

Thanks LisaS! I was hoping to save some TS credits to use during the latter part of my stay, but it looks like I won't be able to do that as I want to save points by using the 1-br early on. Maybe I will spurge and do the 2-br all 8 nights? Hmm...

I don't know much about the DDP so I hope that someone who does will reply to your question, just in case there is some way to accomplish what you want to do.

You might consider getting the DDP for the 5 night leg. We find that eating on the DDP more than 4 or 5 nights is to much food for us. Also after a few days most folks have experienced their favorite restaurants and start using credits just to get rid of them. Not the best use of my money. :thumbsup2

::yes::

It also depends on when you're going. If it's in 2008, you'd better research DDP 2008, because there are big changes which might make it unattractive for your family.

Jim has a good point. Due to the 2008 changes, the DDP will be used less by our family. We are also starting to see WDW restaurants removing more of the premium entrees, like the steak and crab cakes at Wolfgangs. If Disney keeps this up we will be renting a car to eat off site and to buy groceries for in room dining. :drive:
