Question about Less-Drowsy Dramamine

I'm so excited to be leaving in three days! But I'm also very stressed (all this research and planning--I hope all goes well :scared1: ).

I tend to get motion sick on rides and decided to give the less-drowsy stuff a try. I read somewhere that it lasts for 24 hours, so if I take it before bed, I'll be good the next day (and less drowsy). I'm going to try this. My question is, should I wait until the night before to take my first one, or should I start taking it sooner to give my body time to adjust to it? Or would that make it less effective?

Anyone know? TIA!

I think as long as you take it at least a half hour before you're involved in any "motion" you should be fine.

I've taken the less drowsy stuff before and had some weird side effects. I was cotton-mouthed and very "nervous" meaning everything had me freaked out. Having said that, the last part could be because I usually don't drink things with caffeine and had had a lot that week. I'm sure the cotton mouthed part is from the dramamine though. ;)

Good luck!

My fear is how I'll react to it. Usually anything that has a chance of causing drowsiness knocks me out. I'm afraid if I take it before heading out to the park, I'm not going to be very coherent, kwim?

I don't want this vacation to be like the time we went out to Rachel Nevada (Area 51, anyone? ;) ). I was so sick and was hopped up on Benedryl. I have pictures of me standing in front of the Extraterrestrial Highway sign and in front of the Little A'Le'Inn restaurant, but I do not remember being there, I was so out of it. I cannot imagine the horror of seeing pics of my family at WDW and not remembering it because of some medication I took. :scared1: But I want to be able to go on the rides with my kids; that's why I'm opting for "less drowsy."

The non-drowsy formula of Dramamine really is mild. You could always try it before you leave to know for sure. I take it daily at Disney (I developed motion-sickness about 3 years ago) and never was bothered by it (other than dry mouth...but I drink so much water, that's okay)

I take it so I can ride Mission Space with my kids!!! I usually take it when I wake up that morning. By the time we get to Epcot at 9am, it's working. It's never made me sleepy (but Benadryl puts me right to sleep!) However, I'd take it once before you leave, just to make sure you don't have side effects.

You shouldn't need to start taking it until the morning you are leaving. It starts working quickly. However, the less-drowsy still made my DH & I loopy.

We use ginger tablets instead. We start taking them the morning before and take them twice a day during the trip until we arrive back home.

UP Disney Where do you get giner tablets, and how did you know how much to take? I seem to be getting more queezy on some of the rides lately and my DS15 likes rollercoasters. Any help or advise you can give me wil lbe great.

Queen of seasickness here....Bonine works better and is less drowsy than even the less drows Dramamine. They come OTC in chewables. I've tried every seasickness remedy from RX to hebal. Bonine works and yo won't be a zombie!

I take the Less Drowsy about a 1/2 hour before a flight. I don't like feeling "weird" so I only take a 1/2 of one or the kids dose. It does allow me to nod off a bit, though. I am very sensitive to any meds.

I agree with lippylulu...Bonine is the best. My son gets very car sick and has a sensitive stomach but when we travel and when we were on DCL I give Bonine and he was perfectly fine. No side effects at all. It works great and we won't travel or go to Disney without it.

Another Bonine user here. It works great for me if I'm riding rides or cruising on a ship. The stuff has honestly opened up a whole new world for me. I used to avoid all kinds of things that would make me nauseous. Not anymore!!

It really works? I'd love to take my kids on the tea cups but ever since I turned into an adult I get dizzy and sick just spinning around once in the computer chair!

Ooooohhh, the dreaded Tea Cup Ride. I'd have to take two Bonines for that one!! :rotfl:

TEE HEE...i was going respond the same thing! I still won't do the tea cups! But I did make it through ToT, EE, and Star Tours! Also won't do Mission Space again...with or without meds.

Not to be a hijacker here but I've never heard of bonine. Does it have caffeine in it? I think I have an allergy to caffeine. :/

The generic for Bonine is meclizine. I can't imagine that it has any caffeine in it. I'm pretty sensitive to caffeine and I have NO trouble sleeping when we're on vacations and I'm taking the Bonine.

The generic for Bonine is meclizine.
Tip for Bonine/meclizine. They usually keep the generic behind the counter at the pharmacy, just ask for meclizine. I got a bottle of 100 for under $5. (I get vertigo occasionally so I always carry it.)

I'm so glad to see this. One of my grandsons gets car sick. Of course, Dramamine knocks him out and he is a zombie and feels so bad when we stop. I was thinking about getting the non drowsy but I will definitely try the Bonine instead. Thanks for the tip.

I find that taking one tablet instead of the adult dose of two works well fo rme. I used to get mildy queasy on Space and the tea cups, but not with the meclizine.

I am pretty sensitve to motion sickness...get ill on a playground swing.

Thanks for the info everybody! I'll have to ask about that the next time I'm going somewhere.

I get sick on front porch swings, so I can sympathize with the crazy motion sickness. Maybe this can help me out!
