Question about LDW

My husband just found out he has a corporate ID through National for his work. When I put it in, I got a deal that was comparable to the KLM code (only a little bit of a difference). However, when I look at it, I see that LDW is "included" in the price. I'm not sure if this is good or not. Any opinions?

LDW = Loss Damage Waiver - LDW covers damage to the rental vehicle.

Included = No additional cost

No additional cost = Always good ;)

It is a good thing, as it is free insurance comparable to the comprehensive you have on your personal policy. If you have an accident, tree fall son the car, flooding, break-in your personal auto insurance won't be charged.

My corporate code includes LDW. Lately the rate has been better than the codes, so it's definitely the way to go. The only downside with mine is you can't get frequent flyer miles.

My caution would be does his "work" allow employees to use the "work" corporate code for "leisure" travel.

If not, there could be some major issues in the event of any sort of "LDW" event, not a lawyer AND I could be wrong, but I think I "heard" (again, :confused3), that your own personal insurance as well as any "credit card" insurance could refuse to cover any issues if you rented "fraudently" (ie--using a code to which you are not entitled). That could leave you personally liable for many hundreds of thousands in the event of a severe incident.

Take a few minutes and check.

Thanks Ranger-I appreciate your feedback. Yes, at the top of the page that I got the code off of, it says that they are allowed to use the code for leisure car rentals as well as business. I felt so weird using the KLM code that I would have felt even weirder using this code for a pleasure trip if it wasn't allowed. Thanks!

My company has a code for business use and a code for leisure use, same rates. I doubt anyone would risk their job for a rental car discount.

It would have to be a pretty poor company that would fire someone for using a corporate ID for a leisure trip (unless they were looking for an excuse anyway).

But, I could easily see an insurance company denying coverage....:(

And, as said, in a worst case incident, that could be mucho $$$$ a person could be personally liable for...
