My husband will be graduating from seminary in December 2006, and as a gift to him, I wanted to surprise him with a land & sea package. We've both been wanting to stay at AKL, but I've been seeing that it's a category 1-7 resort, and we want to do a category 11 or 12 room (in other words, the money we want to splurge on would be for the resort room...not the cruise room). Is this possible to book as a package, or would I need to book them separately in order to get a deluxe resort with a category 11 or 12 stateroom? Would book separately be cheaper?

I believe for the package you have to book in accordance with your stateroom category. We are in a cat 4 so we were able to choose AKL. If you book separately AAA had some really nice deals on packages for the land portion.

Hope this might help a little. Good luck!

Depending on when you are going, you can sometimes save some significant $ by booking separately. There are lots of threads about this on these boards--you can do a search for them.

AKL is a wonderful place to stay...and I agree about booking a 12gty on the cruise. You don't spend any time in the cabin anyhow. Now if I were in the position of wanting some romantic balcony time, things might be different.

January is low season, and can be a very inexpensive time to sail....perhaps that can be the trip time with a December graduation???? Since it is also low season at the parks, that's when they run special deals on the resorts.
