hi guys. not trying to start a fight but i just read that the digital scrapbooking links thread was closed due to commercialism. were we not supposed to post links to kits and stuff that was on sale? I always thought it was just for all disney-ish type kits we have found to share with outhers. I know I for one have found this wonderful since I would have never found some of those kits without help. And i know that I have gotten most of my kits through finding them on here. anyways, Im sad to see it go. and was just curious.
thanks
maybe those of that find disney-ish kits on sale could form an email tree, and send the links to people? just a suggestion

Are you kidding me? The original thread was started over 2 1/2 years ago and just now the powers that be have decided it's "commercialism" to share where we've found digital scrapbooking products - free or for purchase?? What gives???

But if that's the case I would think that all posts having to do with where to purchase products - digital or physical - should be treated the same. That would mean no more posting about sales at Michaels, or AC Moore, or any online stores that sell Cricut cartriges, etc.

If digi scrappers aren't allowed to share "where to purchase" information, then to be fair no one should be allowed. That's just my opinion!!!

WHAT?!?!?! That was my go-to thread.

I totally agree with RRBB. While thye're at it, better go over to the Budget Board and shut down the CVS thread. If that isn't commercial, I don't know what is.

Completely agree, I loved finding great Disney kits and the thread helped us all share them. I see nothing wrong with sharing product information.

Wow I'm shocked and disappointed.

It's hard enough for digital scrappers to find Disney-ish kits as it is. That thread was beyond helpful.

I see nothing wrong with posts sharing freebies or links to kits for sale. I'm a grown adult and certainly can choose if I want to buy a kit or not from someone.

So should all the posts regarding sales at commercial stores (Michaels, AC Moore, Joann's, CVS, Target, Walmart, online sites...should I go on?) be flagged and closed for violating the commercialism policy? Why is it okay to share information about regular scrapbook products for sale and not digital products? :confused3

What about the Scrap Sites Sticky in this forum- isn't that advertising for those sites listed? Where do you draw the line and who decides where it is drawn?

Absolutely ridiculous in my opinion. :headache:

Read the sticky at the top; someone has been busy making new rules. Not sure why but it seems that digital scrappers are targeting by many of them.

Anyone know of other online communities that would welcome a group of Disney scrapbookers?

The thread was closed because of the number of self-promotion links included in the thread. I understand not all the links were self promoting and I did my best to link all free links (that were still good- many of them were not) into the Digital FAQ thread. We are trying to figure out the best way to include a sticky of digital store as well as brick and motor stores (yes the scrappy sites sticky is under discussion also) without any of it becoming a self promotion problem again and will be adding the links back into that as soon as we can.

Just wondering why the Scrap Sites Sticky is under discussion while the Digital Scrapbooking thread was just shut down with no warning? If you're going to apply a blanket policy- be consistent about it please.

Because there were so many self promoting links in the digital one and we deleted the 2 we found in the scrappy sites one- the number we had to delete in the digital one was much larger and therefore shutting down the thread and reposting the information was found to be the best way to go about it.

Perhaps a vote should be taken. I'm not offended by the links and I'm sure others agree. As I stated before, it's a choice to purchase a kit. I don't purchase every product I see advertised on TV.

I'm new to digital scrapping and have come to realize that there is far less Disney-ish stuff out there in the digital format and it's hard to find. That thread was a wonderful resource for me.

Please take into consideration how helpful that thread was to many of us.

I am headed over to www.mousescrappers.com the creator of the site is Carol and she is awesome - I know that she would love to have us move over there :)

It's not the fact that the links are offensive in any way it's the fact that the thread itself became to promotional to current DIS'ers. Admin set forth the guidelines about not having promotional sites posted.

http://www.wdwinfo.com/guidelines.htm

1. FOR SALE For sale ads are strictly prohibited on any of the DISboards. Anyone posting such ads will have their post deleted. This same policy applies to links to your ebay/auction listings . "For sale" posts includes requests for donations (see below). In addition, "Vote for me" posts are not permitted on the DIS. This includes requests for support in an online contest, sweepstakes, lottery or other event designed to yield personal gain.

7. ADVERTISING: The advertisers/sponsors who you see on the DIS are carefully chosen. While we welcome discussion of them as well as other businesses that you have information or questions about, if its determined that you are using the DIS to promote a commercial venture, you will lose your posting privileges. This includes choosing a username/signature that refers to your business. In addition, links to the company's website will be blocked. Also note that we do not want the boards to be used for solicitations or for requesting referrals. Requests for advertising can be directed to Corey@wdwinfo.com for consideration.

10. LINKS TO OTHER SITES: You are welcome to link to your web site on our boards provided that a) you are not promoting a commercial service or for-profit venture, b) you don't post primarily to promote your site and c) that you place one of these images on the home page of your web site. Before posting a link to another site, we ask that you please first check to see if the same information is available on www.wdwinfo.com.

So again we suddenly have a new interpretation or enforcement of rules without a full understanding of the impact. I've been on this board from the beginning but I just didn't have time for traditional. I wanted to learn digital and found that in my time away from this board we had some great scrappers that did digital and shared their expertise. Now 2 yrs later (that I've been doing digital) it is decided that no one can share their own links. I wouldn't even always know which links were from designers and which from just people that found them. Some of the most active posters on the kit thread were not designers.

A designer that never links to their own kits here linked a challenge here from their blog that brought several new people to the DIS. Now we are told that because she provided a freebie that was advertising?? She bought way more people here and did follow the guidelines but can no longer provide a prize??

Maybe it makes sense to someone but it doesn't to me and there are many other websites where we won't have to worry about arbitrary enforcement and interpretation of rules. I don't see a compromise here, respect and trust are required for that and I don't have it in the administration here.

Could the newly closed thread be turned into a sticky since its such a great resource? I'm new here and already feel the loss. :guilty:
