Hi Disboard Memebers, I hope you can help me (I actually have no doubt that you guys can)

Anyway, me and my 2 DSs will be going to WDW in about 2 weeks :yay: , and I was surprised when my oldest DS asked about going on Kali River Rapids (hes usually the tamer one, and doesnt like crazy/scary rides). I know that you get SOAKED when riding this ride, so I had an idea that I want to run by you guys. I will be wearing a fanny back and of course dont want it, and its contents (cell phone, two way radios, etc.) to get wet, would wearing a poncho be enough of a protection, since the fanny pack will be covered or should I also put the whole fanny pack in a large ziplock bag and keep it under the poncho?

Also, while im on the subject of getting wet on rides, how wet do you get on Splash Mountain, should I also wear a poncho to protect my fanny pack?

Thanks in advance for your help

Nathan

there should be lockers around that area to put your fanny pack in. if you don't want to go with the locker i would suggest a large zip-lock bag. plan to get wet on any kind of water ride. some get wetter than others(i.e. if you sit in the front.)

There is a center console in the ride covered in a big sheet of plastic for this purpose. I don't know if it's trustworthy about keeping the water out. You could always see what it looks like before pulling out the poncho. I say, if you don't trust the center piece, that a ponch would be just fine. As long as you tuck it in around the fanny pack, water won't get to it. It's also not a 100% guarantee that you'll get wet in Kali. I went on once, and I didn't even get a splash, while everyone else in the boat got drenched. :furious: I was mad too! ;)

If you sit in the front seat on Splash, you get wet. The farther away you are from the front seat, the dryer you stay. But if you want to be safe, then wear a poncho, but you should be fine.

Kali River and a place in the middle of the seats to place all your valuables in so they don't get wet. We have always but our backpack in there and never have had any problem with camera, video camera, or cell phones. On Splash you only get wet in the first two rows but as long as stuff is in your fanny pack you will be okay. You don't get as soaked as you do on Kali and in the heat you will dry pretty fast. Have a great time we will be there the week after yall. :thumbsup2

Another poncho-wearer here. I always wear a poncho on Kali as I hate walking around with a wet butt. We've worn just the cheapo plastic film ones and the hippack has stayed dry-maybe a little damp on outside, but never has it soaked thru. We've also put the hippacks in the center console and they've been fine.

I buy the cheapo $1 ponchos from Walmart/kmart... bring them with us to AK specifically for this ride.. They are very flimsy...I usually put my camera case strap across my chest so that my hands are free.. while sitting the case usually ends up on my lap, and the poncho is over me.. Never had a problem with it getting wet... (although at times my butt still gets soaked!)

Then, when we get off the ride we hand our ponchos to others waiting in line and ask them to "pass it on"

I thought this things were round...so I'm guessing there's several rows to this "raft" ?? Any pics? How many people can they sit? Are you able to chose your seat.... like if you really don't want to be in front etc.?

I would like to try it...but i'm the chicken type :-)

They are round, everyone sits in a circle looking at each other. When they board you they let you in and tell you to go all the way around leaving no seats open. It seats either 10 or 12 and you sit in pairs and share a seat belt.

Kali, I believe is a round raft. Splash Mountail is a long with four rows, usually two are seated in each row.

Ok I see why I was so confused... some talked about Kali others Splash.

Thanks :)

We take a small Trashbag to AK with us just for that ride .

I have it out and ready 1st thing I do when I get on is put the bag in the center.

Then in with the backpack ,Med Ziplock and all wallets cells go into that then one pull and everything is protected. If it's just me ,DW and DD we just make sure everything is in the backpack as we are in line( even socks if we don't want them to get wet with our water shoes).

If others are on the ride with us We let them place things in the bag if theirs room as well .Getting out of ride is easy as you just pull the entire bag out and go up the steps to exit.

The center console on kali works well. Splash is a different story, but you really don't get wet, certainly not enough to justify a poncho, just wipe off your seat before sitting down, maype put a plastic bag on the seat, that would work well on either or these rides.

I personally don't see much point in wearing a poncho on either of these rides. Part of the fun of the ride is the possibliity of how wet you may get. Don't wear the poncho, just my opinion.

I found a picture on the net for you. :goodvibes

I agree, it is a water ride and the fun of it is to get wet. I went on with DD4 and DD6 . I warned my 6 year old that she would get wet. MY 6 year old doesn't like to be wet and i warned her ahead of time. I told her that getting wet is what this ride is all about. Well we got soaked, me especially, but i didn't care. I was dry within a half hour and it was so much fun!!! I had a fanny pack, but i also keep my phone, camera and camcorder in ziploc bags in my fanny pack for rides like this, splash mountain and in case of the occassional shower. But the ride does have a console to keep your personal items dry.
