Question about Jurassic Park

I orginially posted this question on the resorts board accidently. Hoping someone can help me here.

Question for the US/IOA experts. My son (5) is CRAZY about Jurassic Park and I am thinking about cutting the Disney portion of our trip short to include 2 nights at US. My questions are:

1) Will he enjoy the Jurassic park section if he is too short to ride the river adventure?
2) Which is better in terms of accommodations – APH rate at Portofino ($269/night) or regular rate at Royal Pacific ($239/night)? I have the Loews First card (Blue).
3) What is the “kids welcome” I saw on the Loews website?

Yes, he'll enjoy Jurassic Park even if he can't ride JPRA. He can probably ride Pteranondon Flyers, good to go there early before the line forms. And you can check out the Discovery Center on the lower level of Burger digs. He'll probably spend 2 hours in the play ground. Bring a change of cloths, there are squirt guns and the kids get soaked.

RPR has smaller rooms, tropical setting, huge pool, 7 minute walk to IOA.
PBH has larger rooms, huge bathroom, slide at the pool. I like the PBH more even if the walk is 13 minutes.

Jurassic Park is the largest of the 5 Islands in IOA, there's PLENTY he will enjoy there. There is a huge playground called Camp Jurassic, the whole Discovery Center that looks exactly like in the movie, with lots of interative games and raptors hatching once in a while. There's also the Pteranadon Flyers which goes over the whole island.

My 4 year old nephew absolutely loved the Discovery Center last summer. Thats all he wanted to do the whole weekend is hang out in there and look at the dino exhibits. I thought he was going to come unglued with excitement when an egg hatched. The workers in there really took a special interest in him and it made his trip.
