Went to Walmart today to see if they had one I could see in person and 3 of the folks that worked there said they had them in but they were locked up in the back till that morning. Then they proceded to tell me it will not be 398.00 it will be 488.00 , is this true??? Are all the ads that came out about this wrong? Or do they just have no clue???

I have no idea, but if it's $488 my honey is going to have a cow. I am just waiting for the early Sunday paper so that I can get a few peeks at the BF ads. Maggie

We were at Wal-mart and my Dh kept trying to get them to commit to the $395.00 Price for the HP Computer. They wouldn't. The 2 on the shelf were $795.00.

What I have noticed after seveal years of BF shopping is that Walmarts BF big ticket items have different model numbers than the exact same thing that was on the shelve the day before. It sets it apart as "that" sale item!! I returned a Kodak Camera I bought on BF it looked just like the one on display in Jan. when I returned it, But they Instantly Knew it was a BF model.

:cool1: I saw a copy of the Wal Mart ad today & the HP computer is $488.00 for the the desktop or laptop. I made a copy of that page because I wanted to study the camera!

ok so I was searching on gottadeal.com forums and from what I can gather it is the region you live in , some are selling for 388.00, some for 398.00, and some for 488.00. And of course I have the high end of the deal in the area I live in. Also the majority of all the posts say that each store will only have a minimum of 10-20 laptops per store.

So I am not real sure if I even want to go stand in line for hours to have to pay more and then risk the chance of not even getting one.... :confused3

I guess just call your local Walmart. We have 2 in my town and one lady said it was def. 488.00at the first Walmart and then I went to the other one, and the lady I talked to was quite rude about it all. First she said they don't tell them what they have going on sale until that morning..well that is not true.....even I know that...and then she said well the sales add will be released on Wednesday, so I said so then you would know Wednesday and not Friday morning then right? and then she said well the laptop you are talking about I know is going to be at least 500.00 or more...HUH????? She acted like she had no clue just a second ago....I am going to call and talk to the store manager I think!!! I really cannot stand dealing with rude people and stupid ones at that!!!! GRRRRRR!!!

Ok just talked to the Manager on duty and she said it was gonna be 398.00...now why in the world would one be 488.00 and one be 398.00 in the same town??? Less than 15 miles from each other???? I guess I will just have to wait for the ad to come out on Wednesday.

My future DIL told me last year that our local Wal-Mart just flung open the doors on Black Friday,

She said their was a mad rush into the store. She was there for a portable DVD player. They just piled the various merchandise giant piles in the aisles. She watched one woman get hit in the head with a TV as people were dragging them down....

I'm in the market for a cheapie computer, but afraid to face that gauntlet.

At Best Buy, they hand out tix for the various items while you're in line...at least you know whether you've snagged one & can go hunting elsewhere if you didn't.

Our walmarts here give out tickets because of that very problem I watched a lady get whacked upside the head with one of those razor scooters. I always said I would never go back on BF , but I really want the computer.

Well, I don't have to worry about waking up at OMG early for this now. My honey got a little extra dough from her mom and grandma, so she went ahead and built a laptop on HP's website tonight. Maggie

Anyone know if the computer is worth the price? Cant read too much of the ad. Memory and speed up to par? Does it come with software? Doesnt look like it has speakers? I will be etting it for my 13 year old son who will use t for surfing the net, IM and downloading some music to his ipod. I just don't want to get it and find out I should have waited until I could spend more to get more. HELP!

Well, I can tell you what was said about the HP laptop...I don't know the details (and he's still asleep :) ) But I can tell you that my DH works at a big chip manufacturer. They announced in the marketing meeting about this "great deal" at Walmart (I know these guys, and it gives me a big chuckle picturing them sitting around talking excitedly about shopping steals :rotfl2: ).

DH works in laptop reliability, looks at just about every laptop out there, and he also used to work for HP. He's actually talking about going to Walmart that morning (dread horror!) to pick one up. So I'm fairly sure he's impressed with it.

I bought Walmarts HP computer last year at $695. It came loaded ready to use. My Dd set it up for me. We were on the internet in under an one hour. I love my computer. It works great! It Does more things than I need but you never know what interests you may have in the future!

Hp has a easy to use system. Mine was loaded with windows XP. Which for a younger user I think would be good. XP has tucked away it's operating systems. So they aren't as easily reached for those not in the know how.
Also If you do happen to do something to horriblely crash the system that system repair can't fix, hp includes recover disks. That way you aren't left with an empty unless shell. It can be brought back to life. This was an important factor as I had just had a computer crash to it's death.

The first thing I did was go to Cnet and install these 3 things to keep my new computer as clean as possible,
FREE ZoneAlarm firewall,

FREE AVG virus protection

FREE SPYWAREBLASTER, it STOPS A THOUSAND NASTY THINGS BEFORE THEY CAN EVEN DOWNLOAD THEMSELVES TO YOUR NEW COMPUTER!!!

I was paying for my stuff today at Walmart and the clerk asked me if I wanted a Black Friday flyer - I said sure, and it shows the laptop for $378

And there is a portable DVD player for $68

She aid it is a free for all madhouse when people come rushing in on Friday and there will be no lines or tickets for items at that walmart.

I'll be in Clearwater for Thanksgiving, so I have to brave unfamiliar walmarts for deals!

Well not to drive anyone crazy but I just got back from a walmart in PA. They handed me an ad. It says HP Paviliom ze2308wm note book computer $378.

Wow, $378 is wonderful, but I'm not holding out much hope of actually getting one. I happened to catch a piece by our local t.v. station on bargain shoppig online and they posted the Black Friday ad site and mentioned the Walmart ad and the computer. I just think this is the top item people will be lining up (who knows how early???) for. I hate to think about how crazy it will be... :scared1:
What I really hope is after BF is over, the stores will still be offering great deals on computers so we can all get in on it! :wizard:

I found this link about the laptops at Walmart for Black Friday because I wanted to buy one too, here's some food for thought from one user on another website (http://forums.AnandTech.com)

Well, I don't think anyone here can comment on the laptop's build quality as it's not in Wal-Mart yet and probably will only be for BF or later.

What I can comment on is the HUGE build difference between HP/Compaq computer builds between Wal-Mart and CC/BB models.

Had a neighbor w/a problem with her HP she'd bought at Wal-mart.

It'd become so infested with viruses that I had to wipe the hard drive and reinstall Windows. She'd burned the "hidden" partition onto CD....was her backup copy of windows XP, but since lost it and the computer wouldn't reburn a second copy.

Luckily I had an OEM copy of WinXP which worked perfectly with her key.

But while I had it, I had to go download some drivers and specific programs and found out some interesting stuff......there were two different computers built with the same model number, just different suffixes. The Wal-Mart sold computer's model number ended in "W" while the BB/CC model was like an "N" or something.

The HP website was kind enough to provide the list of each computer's guts and the difference between the two was very surprising, to say the least.

The BB/CC's box had an Asus motherboard, twice the amt. of memory and was made by Samsung, the CDRW was a Sony unit, the hard drive was a Western Digital.........

The Wal-Mart model, on the other hand, had a TriGem motherboard, memory by some unknown company that sounded like had a Chinese origin, the CDRW was an off-brand of, again, a Chinese sounding-name, and the hard drive was an unknown brand with a Chinese locale (I pulled this out and looked at it......was from Shanghai.)

So, while the model number was ALMOST identical, the guts of each was vastly different and showed why there was such a difference in price between the two models.

In the end, I don't think I'd actually consider buying any computer from Wal-Mart, knowing their history of cost-cutting.......a motherboard is NOT a motherboard, memory is NOT memory, a hard drive is NOT a hard drive........we all know there are varying qualities of each type of component. So, you get exactly what you pay for in Wal-Mart....and in many cases, it's money poorly spent, IMHO.
