My husband just got his MRI results back and they say he has 2 severe herniated discs....He has had trouble standing in one position, but walking seems to be ok so far. I was researching the GAC and was wondering if anyone ever had to get one for this issue, and what did they do? This will be our 13 trip and we will be there for 8 days and staying at the Poly, so I am not worried about keeping up or seeing everything. We can go at our own pace. Just worried about the standing for him.
Thanks!!
Jill

Disney's answer for mobility issues is to rent an ecv or wheelchair. GAC's are not given for diagnoses, but to meet needs. They are not intended to shorten waiting in line and in fact may increase wait time. If standing is a problem you may do better using fast pass to minimize time in line.

If walking isn't painful but standing is, he's probably better of without a GAC. It may provide an alternate waiting area - but not faster access, and very possibly no seating, so he'll be standing a LOT. Compare this with being in an almost-constantly moving line, and, well, livndisney's right - there's likely little, if any, benefit a GAC can provide him.

I have a bad back, there are a few things that makes my trip to wdw better. I take a walking stick that I got from REI. I too have a harder time standing vs walking, the walking stick allows me something to lean on which helps.

I pack memory foam for the bed. It has helped after a long day of walking. Hotel beds are never as good as the one at home. lol

And I ware MBT shoes http://us.mbt.com/
They are great, but need about a month to break them in. Because they are such a different shoe then what we normally ware.

I hope you have a wonderful trip. :yay:
