My four year old has mild cp. He can walk run and drive me insane, like a mini-Stitch. However, my concern is that he may meet the height requirement for some rides, like Splash, but what I am concerned about is the fact that he is very low weight for his age.

Do the height requirments factor in that the child will be of said heights weight in order for the ride to be safe for the child?:confused3

Just wanted to hear some thoughts on that.

No weight requirements, only height. The idea is to make sure the eprson is tall enough for safety restraints to be effective.

::yes::
agreeing with ducklight.
The concern about height is so that the restraints will hold in the correct spot. Both of my DDs are very slim for their height. That hasn't posed any problems for WDW.

For Splash, there are no restraints, but the seat in front of you in the ride car comes up pretty high. I think the height requirement for that attraction may be more to keep younger children who might be scared of the drop (or whose parents might be holding them on their laps) from riding. Here's a picture of the ride car from allearsnet.com

thanks for the help. I keep seeing him just flying out of the ride on the drop, so i think we might just skip that one anyway. I'll see how I feel when we get there.

but thanks again.

Can he hold on? If not I would wait till he is a little bigger but you can sit next to him in the ride. I don't think he will fly out of splash. Our son has dev delays but was tall enough at 3 to go on and we just made sure we grabbed onto him tight. It was more for our peace of mind than his since he did fine.

My DS is very thin was 32 lbs when he was tall enough and had no problems. Only weighed not quite 40 lbs on RNR this summer, I was worried about that but he was 48" and he loved it went on multiple times.

My youngest DD is the one who is disabled. She started going on Splash as soon as she was tall enough and has been on it many times since then, with no problem. We sat next to her and helped her hold on. SHe has the added of problem of going into an extension pattern (which means she ends up in a standing position) when she's exited.
Our only problem now is that she needs to be lifted in and it is very hard to lift her in (and especially out) of that ride.

If you are really unsure, you could tell the CM that you are unsure about whether or not your child will be able to go on the ride and ask if other members of your party can ride first to help get an idea. After riding, you can decide whether or not it is safe.
