I was under the impression that my son will be able to ride Goofy's barnstormer because he's tall enough(the height restriction is 35 in. and he's 36in.). Anyway, I just came across a height restriction list that also said that there is an age minimum of 3yrs old. My son will be 3 two weeks after our trip. Do the CM's check age's somehow? Since he's not officially 3, he won't have a ticket or anything. Does anyone know about this? Thanks!!

5 days to go!

Hmmm, I didn't know about the age requirement....only the height requirement. We were there last week and dd and I went on it. She is 2 1/2 (3 in December), and 38" tall. The CM, never asked me anything and in fact, I was the one that checked her against the height board, just in case. The CM never double checked or anything. However, it could be because my daughter is quite tall and certainly LOOKS like she could be 3 years old.

By the way, my daughter LOVED it!

My daughter also went on it at 2 and we where never questioned. My son just turned 2 and is 36 inches and we are planning on taking him on when we go in October.

My daughter went on it at 2. She was 1 month shy of 3 though, but still no one checked her age and actually I don't think anyone checked her height either at the time. She was 38" at the time.

The age requirement is more like a guideline.

You should be aware that some neurologists really recommend young children don't ride coasters at all, they think the brain isn't developed enough and you can get minor brain damage. However, there is nothing magic about the third birthday regarding brain development and all kids develop at different rates. (My guess is that is why Disney has the three year old requirement - i.e. a big eighteen month old might be tall enough to ride it, but his brain will still slosh around in his skull). Barnstormer is smooth, but it is a pretty big "little" coaster.

(My father in law is a neuroscientist, but not a neurologist.)

Thanks everyone!
I didn't think it would be a problem, but since my son has been talking non-stop about riding a rollercoaster, I figured that I should check it out before we get there!

I actually did something stupid at a carnival once. My daughter who was 2 at the time just made the cut-off for this ride. It looked fast but pretty tame.

Anyway we went on it and my head was spinning when I got off of it. It whipped you around, didn't look so bad when you saw it but it was a rough ride.

I felt so bad about my daughter. She loved the ride but I could tell it wasn't good for her! I was so worried I damaged her some way. I don't think the ride did anything but who knows. She seems fine and its been over a year later, but how would I really know.

My daughter is average or below in height. She is in no way tall. I can't imagine a child younger than my daughter riding this carnival ride even if they made the height requirement. And I am sure there were children younger than mine that would make the cut-off.

Barnstormer is pretty tame for a rollercoaster and its a very short ride, I think most kids who make the cut-off and are near 3 are pretty safe at least compared to that carnival ride!

We were there in December and my younger DD was 26 months at the time and rode it-she LOVED it! GL!

Nobody ever asked us about age. Plus the only requirements (I looked since someone else posted this a little bit back) listed is height. No where on the maps or at the ride is their an age restriction mentioned.

What I remember was that when it first opened, there was not a height requirement, but there was an age requirement of 3 years. I think that it was pretty quickly changed to height because of the problem of verifying age and that some short 3 year olds were too short to really be riding it.

It is not a long ride, but age 3 is still a good guideline (but not a requirement) for the reasons that crisi mentioned.

This is one of those cases where only you know best for your child. My daughter was just a couple of days shy of turning 3, but being the daredevil she is, I knew she would love the ride. She was just a hair over 35 inches, and the CMs didn't even bother measuring her. We were there right as Toontown opened, so it was not crowded, so we were able to ride twice in a row. During both times, my daughter had the biggest, open-mouthed grin on her face during the entire ride. She had the BEST time. If she were not such an active child with no fear, I may have kept her from the ride, but knowing her personality, I knew she'd love it.

Can parents ride the barnstormer with their kids? I think my dd would love it, but I don't know if she'd go on it alone.

I didn't know there was an age restriction. Of course, ds is almost 5. He rode it many, many times last week. Dd 2.5 yo showed no interest in it. I'm glad. Ds and I slid all over the seat in this short coaster. (BTM wasn't nearly as bad. Go figure!) I kept my arm around him the whole time. I would not have felt comfortable taking my dd on it.

That's how I feel about BS. My 6 year old grandson loves it, but I feel it's too much for his 2.5 year old brother. I don't feel as secure on it as I do on other rides, for some reason.

We took DS on it a month ago when he just turned 2 and they only checked the height. Because I was sitting with him, the lap bar didn't come close to reaching him but I just kept my arm around him and he didn't slide around. He seemed to like it and wanted to go again but the line was longer than I wanted to wait, so we passed. You definately need to hold them in the seat though.
