Question about Goodings Cakes? (Orlando area store)

HUH? The Wynn Dixie is no where near the Publix in LBV. There is no Publix close to DTD or the Crossroads. The closest is up by Lake Byran - a rough drive beyond I4 and not easy to find due to the strange road/traffic setup in that area. You could walk (about a mile) to the Wynn Dixie from DTD and we've had as good or better baked goods from them as any Publix.

Thanks for the store info. I think I will go with Winn Dixie just because it's simpler. I tried to find the Publix near WDW and every time I called their bakery the staff could not tell me if they were near Disney. Someone even asked a co-worker, "Where are we?" Didn't instill must confidence in me getting the right store. So, having said that, does anyone know which Mickey cakes they make. I have seen one with Mickey flying a plane online that I like. There is also a surfing Mickey on and a Mickey gears one. Please advise and I'll place my order tomorrow.

I'm sorry for the confusion. I was talking about my local WD & Publix. They're less than a mile from us, which is why I've had so many of their cakes. Everyone around here goes to one or the other. With our local stores, you can always tell if the cake came from WD or Publix. Publix is much better.

Thanks for the info. Any idea where I can see pics of Winn-dixie cakes? Do they have a website? Do they deliver? Sorry for all the questions but I live in the northeast. We do not have any of these stores up near us.

I found pics at www.cakes.com. Just search for a Winn Dixie within ten miles of Lake Buena Vista and the closest one comes up with pictures. You still have to call them directly though.

thank you so much. I love the one with buzz lightyear flying over a round planet. I am going down next week so I am going to WDixie to see if they can make it for our family trip on Nov.

Thanks so much everyone. I have always ordered from disney for our cakes but this year both my husband and I no longer are able to eat cake so paying in excess of $75 seems ridiculous for only 3 out of 5 people eating cake. We will be staying at kidani village so we will have a full fridge and a rental car to pick it up so it seems more reasonable to try a cake from somewhere else.

Now for a trick question. Can you bring a non disney cake to say chef mickeys or another restaurant to celebrate? Not sure about this one.

Not a trick question at all:). You can bring an outside cake in. They just won't store it for you. I have heard that they will be happy to bring a knife, cake plates and serving platter--just ask your server. Good luck with you ordering. I'm hoping to place an order today. Just would love to know what Mickey cakes they have and flavour options. Oh well, I'll find out when I phone. It's been nice chatting with you. Have fun in November and let us know how your cake turns out.:laundy:

Just ordered my cake. Brian is the bakery manager at Winn Dixie and he was so helpful. He can order any item from DecoPac so long as he has five days notice. I got Mickey with the airplane, 1/4 slab in yellow cake with vanilla custard and whipped topping. All for only 24.99! I am so excited and so pleased with the customer service. I had been working with Boardwalk Bakery and have waited more than a week for a follow up email. That's why I started looking elsewhere. He said he's looking forward to meeting me when I'm in shopping next week. This will be my best birthday ever. I have a family party planned for Oct 2 in our room.:cool1:

NOTE: The poster said "OUR" not the one at WDW :rotfl2: Call off the attack dogs :)

Publix is probably overall a much better store. Winn Dixie IMHO has gone downhill since their bankruptcy filing. Things like a VERY sad selection of cheese etc.

we got back last week . ordered this cake from publix and it was delicious.

it was about 70.00. the price was higher due to me having them use creme cheese frosting and have vanilla custard put in between the many layers.
