question about getting around the Fort

We are in the process of switching our reservation from WL to a cabin at the Fort!!! This will be our first time at the Fort and we want to be sure we understand how to get around inside the Fort. We are planning to rent a golf cart and see that we can drive it to the waterfront and park it there. To get to the other parks, can we drive the cart to the outpost and park it there to catch the bus for the other parks? Or do we have to use the internal buses to get to the outpost? Also, are there bus pick ups at most or all of the cabin loops? Trying to figure out how to determine a good place to stay for our request.

Thanks for your help everyone!

Jennifer

There are parking corrals at the marina and outpost, as well as the Meadows Trading Post/pool areas, the Chip & Dale Sing Along/ movie area and the Hoop de Doo restaurant areas.

There are bus stops all along every loop.

We used to bring bikes, which is fun, but since we rented a golf cart the bikes didnt get used and we no longer bring them.

Occasionally my daughter and I take long walks from place to place at the Fort because we love the atmosphere and excercise.

Getting around is easy :)

Edit: ooooh, now you're gonna have to change your trip ticker, lol!

Yes, you can ride and park your cart at the Outpost and catch external buses. The internal ones run quite often (approx. 20 min, though varies) and we have never had much problem with them. We just returned from 10 days there and only one day had bus schedule problems, and we never rent a cart. To us it is more hassel than benefit, but lots of people like them to ride around the campground. We don't have time for that, nor desire, so we opt to save the extra $$ and hassel (to us) :goodvibes Most of the bus stops are situated throughout the Fort where there is one available fairly close to walk to. Hope this helps answer your questions ::yes::

Thanks for posting this question. This will be our first time to stay at the campgrounds in June. I think I am somewhat confused about the inner transportation. Are you not allowed to drive your car up to your RV and park there? I don't really want to rent a golf cart. Is it necessary to bring bicycles? We have a 9 and 13 yo and normally bring bikes when we go camping. However, we figured we would be so tired from being at the parks that they would not be used. We don't want to pack them if we don't need to. Any thoughts?

Sorry...just found the info about not being able to drive in the campground area. I imagine the buses get pretty crowded. How far is it to walk from where you are allowed to park your car to Loop 100-300? My DH is not a fan of Disney buses. :(

You park your car at your site or cabin.

What you can't do is drive and park at places like the marina and leave your car there all day. Thats why you need the internal buses, a golf cart, bikes or walking.

If you have room for the bikes it would be a plus for the kids. :thumbsup2

Thank you, I was trying to imagine getting groceries back. :rotfl: So I am glad we can park at our site. We will probably go ahead and bring the bikes afterall. (I tend to pack way more than we need anyway ::yes::, so I guess I won't break tradition.) Just went and bought the oldest a new bike for his birthday :bday: so he will want to break it in real good.

Bring locks for the bikes. They occasionally get moved, often for joy riding, if left unlocked at the public places while you are at the parks. Also front and rear lights if you plan to ride after dark. Some areas of the Fort are quite dark at night.

I like the internal busses and use them often. You might have to wait a few minutes, but you're on vacation. Worst case it usually when special events are starting or ending, such as the HDDR or MBYBBQ. Otherwise, busses are rarely even half full.

Yes, it's funny we walk several miles a day while at the parks, then at the end of the day as soon as we get to our hotel (now will be our campground) the kids suddenly can't walk. LOL!

The buses are rarely crowded. There are 3 different routes. Many campers rent or bring golf carts and bikes so the majority of campers don't take the internal bus. The only time I've seen them crowded is at the beginning or end of the day. Or the rush to the Hoop Dee Doo.
