Question about getting "announced" at boarding

We're going on our first Disney cruise this Saturday, and I had read before that they announce your family as you board the ship. I had a thought about that today, and was wondering if anyone here could provide some information.

We're a family of five that (at the present time) have four different last names. There is my partner and I with our own last names, our two adopted boys with their own last name (hyphenated name that has both their dad's last names) and our not-yet-adopted daughter who still has her "old" last name. You should see the confusion that creates when we check-in at the airport! :D

Is there a way for me to make sure that Disney uses the boy's last name? If so, is that best done now or when we check in to board?

Thanks.

Mark

The CM at the entry asks your name and where you are from and then announces you. I boarded as a si gle once and they just announced me as Sandy. Since you have time to think about it you may wantto give our group a special name and use that.

If I remember rightly you are announced as a family and you give your name and where you're fom to the Cm as you board. They then announce you. I'm sure you could give whatever name you wished and probably even have a couple of you give names so different people are announced.

Easy, they don't ask you your name until you board. You walk in, the cast member says what's your name, where are you from. You can just tell them the boys last name and your home. They'll announce it.......MAYBE. My husband and I walked on with a family group of about 7 or 8 people. They announced......the "So-and-so Family from Maryland" and then just pushed us ahead with them. We DIDN'T even get announced. We were kind of taken aback by the whole thing. They literaly pushed me ahead as to say move along, someone else is boarding. So we didn't even get announced. I guess we look like we are from Maryland. So much for that MAGICAL experience.

Thanks for the information! Now that I don't have to worry about this, I guess I'll have to focus on packing. Yuck!

mrsfuzzmo - Hey they don't need to announce me. Let me get on the ship and start having fun. I know many people probably feel different than me, but they could skip this part for our family. I would feel frustrated if they tried to push us through with another group though - that doesn't seem right. - Mike

Maybe if you tell the CM you all have different last names he/she might have a suggestion as how to announce you. I'm sure it's happened many times. Our party of 11 had three different last names, from two different states. The whole moment went by so quickly, I don't even remember how they announced us. :p

I hope you and your family have a great time on your cruise! :D

Maybe announce first names only and where you are from. Everyone will be thrilled no matter what you decide. I'm going to try to catch our announcement with our video camera so we can have it always!

We wrote down on a piece of paper what we wanted the CM to say - They happily obliged (Our Oldest daughter did not go on the previous cruise - So we wanted them to say "Kaitlin is back, and she brought her sister this time!" and they did -

I guess we look like we are from Maryland.
You should be flattered- Marylanders are EXTREMELY attractive.

"Kaitlin's back and she brought her new sister" That is precious.

I only heard ours because I knew to listen for it. But its easy to loose it in the noise and excitement of boarding the ship - especially if you are boarding for the first time and in crowds. It will be interesting to hear whether you can make it out on your video.

Hi,

When I went on DCL recently, they just announced my first name and my hometown. It got lost in the noise of the excitement, but I thought it was fun.

Have a magical day!
