Hi everyone! I've been hearing about gay day for years now and i've always wanted to go. I live in California so i'd want to go to the one at Disneyland. The thing is, i'm kind of shy (my girlfriend is the outgoing one!), she loves me and she's not afraid to show it! But I was just curious of how much jeering and discrimination I should expect. We encounter it everywhere we go; whenever we hold hands or she kisses me on the cheek people glare or shout at us. I want this to be a fun experience but I do not want to be heckled all day.

Are the crowds generally pretty nice? Or should I be prepared for the worst?

:welcome: Wow, this must be newbie day! :)

WDW has been a great place for us to vacation. We have never gone during GayDays, but we have been almost every year since 2001. We have NEVER had any sort of bad reaction to being caught holding hands or a quick peck kiss on the cheek. I think you will be fine.

Any other questions? :wizard:

That's good :)
I've heard of people planning to go on gay day just so they can make fun of people and stuff. I really don't want to subject myself to anything but I suppose that's the kind of world we live in. Thanks for the response!

I've been to Gay Days at WDW the past 6 years (met my partner there at my first one!) and have NEVER had anyone make fun of us, say anything derogatory, or even look at us funny. Quite the opposite, actually. And there is NOTHING in the world that compares to looking out at Main Street after the parade and seeing the sea of red shirts and knowing that it's US! Very empowering. It'll take your breath away.

I think everyone should experience at least once.

That sounds amazing! Do they have a special parade?? That would incredible. It sounds like a much bigger event then I thought. Hopefully i'll get to go someday.

It's the same parade that they run every day at the Magic Kingdom. What's special about it is that the parade route is lined with red-shirted guests who are a "family" or "friends of the family". Since a lot of folks go out and party that night, the majority of gay days revelers (not all) leaves the park after the parade. So they essentially follow the parade down mainstreet as it ends and you get this amazing sight of all the red shirts packing Main Street. My first year we staked out seats and the train station, so we saw the castle in the background and the sea of red following the parade. I got teary eyed. It's wonderful!

I hope you decide to go. I have thought about it for the last 5 years I have lived "out west" but always came up with excuses. I have my reservations for this year and am ready to make the plunge. Now I just need to find a cute guy to hang on to during the "scary rides"

So go, have fun, and hopefully I will see ya there!

Wow, it sounds really awesome! I think it would be good for our relationship as well. It would help for us not to be self conscious. Are the dates for Disneyland and Disneyworld the same?

I think the link to the site is gaydaysanaheim.com They have info on the schedule and the events that are going on. Hope you can make it. We'll have to say HI.
