Question about Fundraising for the Half

I am running in the half in January scared1 and would like to know about using that race to raise money for a charity. Has anyone done this before? The charity is not supporting the race or anything, it would just be me doing my thing. Can anyone offer advice? Thanks.

Bumping this up, because I've got the same question. I am not interested in joining one of the organizations like TNT where you have to raise a certain amount of money or you are responsible for making up the difference.

I know that the Houston Marathon had a program where you could select a charity and raise money for that charity. Does Disney have anything similar?
