Today is day 10 and I am supposed to add the rest of the ingredients and bake it tonight. Will it really mess it up if I wait until the morning to add and bake?

I'm sure it would be fine. It's been sitting out 10 days, what's another few hours?

I have waited as much as 2 days later to bake mine and it is still YUMMMMMMMMY!! Try adding pecans to one loaf. My mouth is watering just thinking about friendship bread.

Hey...does anyone have the starter recipe???

OMG DM has this flipping each day in the kitchen. Here I thought she was crazy and now I see it on the DIS I know she is:lmao:

If I can find it I will scan it in and post it.

Is this that Amish Friendship Bread? You add vanilla pudding and cinnamon or you can use chocolate pudding and add chocolate chips? Or add the vanilla pudding with the chocolate chips? Can you tell I've had this before!??!:lmao: I LOVE it. I'd love to make some again!!

That's the stuff, alright!

Does anyone have the recipe for how you start the whole thing? I'd LOVE to do it and give some away!! I have no clue where my old recipe is. Anyone care to help?

Wait!!! It takes 10 days to make it!!!!!!

Amish Friendship Bread

***starter***
1 package active dry yeast
1 cup milk
1 cup flour
1 cup sugar

dissolve yeast in a small amount of warm water
Mix all ingredients together.
Do not refridgerate starter.
This is day 1

(Start recipe here when giving away)
Day 1:
Do nothing with the starter.
Days 2-5:
Stir with a wooden spoon.
Day 6:
Add 1 cup flour, 1 cup sugar, and 1 cup milk. Stir with a wooden spoon.
Days 7-9:
Stir with a wooden spoon.
Day 10:
Add 1 cup flour, 1 cup sugar and 1 cup milk. Stir. Take out 3 cups and place 1 cup each into three separate plastic containers. Give one cup and a copy of this recipe to three friends. To the balance (a little over one cup) of the batter, add the following ingredients and mix well.

1 cup oil
1/2 cup milk
3 eggs
1 tsp vanilla

In a separate bowl combine the following dry ingredients and mix well:
2 cups flour
1 cup sugar
1-1/2 tsp baking powder
2 tsp cinnamon
1/2 tsp baking soda
1 - (5.1 oz) box instant vanilla pudding
1/2 tsp salt
1 cup nuts (optional)
Add dry ingredients to wet ingredients. Mix and pour into two well greased and sugared bread pans. Bake at 325 degrees for 1 hour.

**I also have used egg substitute, replaced half or all of the oil with applesauce, wheat flour for slightly healthier bread. Also chocolate chips are really good (but not healthy :rotfl: )

Thank you!! I'm going to have to get some yeast so I can make this!!!

Shelby

I keep my starter on the counter in a gallon size Ziplock bag and then you just have to add the ingredients and massage the bag instead of leaving it in a bowl.
